Looking back to my childhood and watching lots of movies and dreaming of cowboys and Indians. I could never imagine having the money or the time to visit America. I had never really wanted it bad enough to spend lots of my hard-earned money on one holiday, when I could get to Europe many times over for the same cost.
This all changed when I had the chance to work in Winter Park Colorado for a winter season as a ski representative. Colorado is on the divide between East and West with fantastic skiing and a great location to start any USA road trip. The National Parks pass was my ticket to the sights and history of the wild west. During my first road trip I visited Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon (my favourite Canyon in the world so far), Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Monument Valley and lots of other curious rock formations like Mexican hat. I can never put into words how vast the landscape is and how much space there is between settlements. My British mind was changed after this trip. Here we have to consider whether an hour or two on the road is worth doing to see an amazing sight of natural beauty, where in America an hour drive is for some people the trip to the supermarket.
Since my first time in America I have been hooked and have been for 4 weeks travelling the National Parks in Utah and the California coast road from Los Angeles to San Francisco and beyond.
I have visited New York and New England north to Boston, Halifax and as far North as Quebec in Canada.
Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale with stays in Disney and Universal for the inner child!
Multiple sailings round the Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico, Columbia, Panama and too many islands to remember.
I have also been around the bottom of South America by ship and seen Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil & Chile.
