Holland America – Heroes at Sea!

The Holland America Line Zuiderdam played host to 8 crewmen from the Bahamian Ship Excalibur the other day in most unusual circumstances.

At 2 am on the 3rd January 2015 the Zuiderdam picked up a mayday call from the vessel which was approximately 15 miles away and sinking.

The Zuiderdam changed course and went to the rescue.

They managed to execute the rescue at 3 am when all 8 crew were safely brought on-board and given food and accommodation until they could be taken to the next port in Aruba.

The Ship was in the middle of a 10 night Panama Canal Cruise from Fort Lauderdale and just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

So a huge well done to the Officers and crew of the Zuiderdam for their quick thinking and actions which saved 8 lives.

Holland America must be very proud of all it’s crews as the following day the Ms Zaandam, another Holland America Ship rescued 7 crew from the sailing Yacht Polonus, stationed at a Polish research station on King George Island in Antarctica, who had run aground. The seven were taken to Buenos Aries where they disembarked safe and sound.

In fact if you start to research this Holland America have made several rescues over the past few years.
