A Sad Day in Travel

It is a sad time in Travel.

Like many in my tight-knit industry, I am very shocked at the loss of Thomas Cook (1841 – 2019) and my heart goes out to all the employees some of which are dear friends and ex-colleagues both in the shops, in the field and the airline staff who have now lost their jobs.

They are a very Familiar sight in our towns and airports.

I would like to ask everyone who has a booking with Thomas Cook booked with another agency to please be patient with them as they try to deal initially with passengers in resorts as they will get to you and help you sort out your bookings.  It is a stressful time for customers and agencies.

When Thomas Cook organised his very first package, a Rail Journey from Leicester to Loughborough, I do not think he could ever have comprehended that a company with his name would one day be flying passengers all around the world. Travel as we know it today is mainly due to the inspiration and dedication of this single-minded man.  His reach is shown far and wide.

However, like all things, Travel more than many industries changes at a rapid pace. In my 31 Years, I have seen huge changes in technology, process and the places we now have accessibility to travel to.

With this in mind when something like this happens, It brings home the importance of booking a package and not booking separate flights, hotels etc because you think it will be cheaper. In the long run, as you do not know what is around the corner the peace of mind of having a fully Atol Bonded Package is priceless.

We will weather the storm as we in Travel are a hardy bunch but please take heed and book protected Abta/Atol Bonded Packages for your own peace of mind and remember we are protected and we have you at the heart of all we do.

Good luck to all those looking for new jobs and to those looking to re-book or secure their holidays
