It isn't only cruise review sites that have 'moaners'. Last year we went to a very classy hotel in America and when I read some of the reviews beforehand, I could have cried. The holiday and hotel were wonderful! When you think of how many cruises/holidays are taken each year it puts the the moans into perspective (and sometimes you have to take a risk!) .

Thank you Graham and Walker for your comments. I to have met a few moaners in my time. However a terrible holiday to Bulgaria sticks in my memory even though it was a long time ago. Everyone couldn;t wait to get home it was so bad. But by the time the flight was half way home people seemed to be having a change of opinion. What had been a horror story was being remembered as not so bad and by the time we landed back home some had even enjoyed their "nightmare holiday" Why the change of mind? I could only assume that they couldn;t bare to think that they had wasted all that money and didnt want to tell everyone back home what a disaster it had been. Maybe now you can understand my misgivings. But as I said to Ida " Nothing ventured nothibg gained" Thanks again Sheila.

The best way to use these reviews may be to read as many reviews as possible about a particular ship. You may then pick up on certain similar comments being made by several people. It would therefore be reasonable to assume that these comments carry some truth. As the Downs have already said, the Berlitz Guide to Cruising gives much useful information on individual cruise ships.
