With NCL simple answer is no NCL do not have formal nights like other cruise lines but they do stop at swimwear so anything smart casual will do.

Men can either wear shorts in one resteraunt or long trousers in another. I took a few cocktail dresses and felt out of place. It was a very casual atmosphere when fining.

Got back from Cruise with NCL, 1st night went to Dinner in Jeans and Tee shirt, they let me in but advised that from 2nd night it had to be smart casual, unless you eat in Buffet where shorts ETC are acceptable.

For goodness sake a Cruise is like a 5* hotel you go there for a bit of old fashioned ambience. If you want to wear shorts go to a beach resort where dinner is not an occasion - I pay for good quality meals, service and a variety of evening entertainment. Not a Butlins at sea with people in flip flops and smelling of suntan lotion. Time and place for everybody but stop knocking ordinary people who prefer a bit of luxury, not anything to do with snobbishness just a taste of what we can't have every week!
