What’s New On Symphony Of The Seas?

It is just under 2 months until the first sailing of Royal Caribbean’s brand new ship Symphony of the Seas on the 31st of March. There has been much hype about the ship that is set to become the biggest cruise ship in the world, taking the title from her sister ship, Harmony of the Seas. So what’s all the hype about? What’s new to cruisers who are taking a trip on this mega-ship?

Let’s start with my favourite subject – food!

There will be many familiar haunts such as Wonderland, Jamies Italian, Jonny Rocket’s and Chops Grille, but also some new venues:

Hooked – this is a seafood restaurant serving all types of fruits of the sea including oysters, crab, lobster, grilled fish as well as having it’s own sushi bar.

El Loco Fresh – this is a Mexican restaurant with the onus being on using fresh ingredients to spice up Mexican classics such as fish tacos, enchiladas and Burritos

Playmakers – this is a family sports bar that also serves food. It offers bar food such as chicken wings, shrimp popcorn and burgers which you can munch on whilst watching your favourite sport on one of the many screens or partaking in a board game or playing on the retro arcade games.

Sugar Beach – if you want your kids hyper on sugar & working hard on those rotting teeth then hand them a cruise card loaded with credit, lead them to Sugar Beach and watch them do their worst. For kids and adults of all ages this is a confectionary heaven offering sweets and lots of ‘home made’ ice cream.

What about entertainment & activities?

As well as the already established activities such as the climbing walls, flowrider, zipline and ice skating rink, RCI are introducing Laser Tag where you can grab your weapon and laser people to within an inch of their lives in order to save the planet. There are 3 big water slides as well as the Splashaway Bay kids pool activity area. The headline show is to be Hairspray and I have to say RCI always put on a class production. There will also be the shows in the Aqua Theatre as well as on the ice rink and the fun parades and street parties on the Royal promenade.

For accommodation, for those that can splash out there are the luxurious 2 storey loft suites and for families there are new ultimate family suites which are duplex and have a slide from the top floor to the bottom, The suite also will have a floor-to-ceiling building block wall, an air-hockey table and two egg swing chairs for chilling. A separate movie theater-style TV room, complete with popcorn machine and a library of video games, also is part of the plan.  Sounds great!

Royal Caribbean do strive to be the innovators and provide the WOW factor on their ships which is why I love sailing with them. It would be great to try and get on board this new ship before she disappears across the Atlantic, so I’d better get my thinking cap on!
