Well,well,wellness

I have never been a big fan of a spa,but lately i have been having treatment for my sciatica and massage has helped ,so as  winter is upon us ,this time of year is great to think about your health and happiness, and cruise ships have the ideal way to top up your wellness, body and soul !

In no particular order (we dont like to take sides)  are some of the best Spas at sea where a sea day can become a see- me day.

Oceania cruises have always relied on outside companies to run their Spa, and the Canyon Ranch has always been a firm favourite with Oceania guests, but they have had a re-think and have brought the whole experience now in house with the launch of the Aquamar Spa plus Vitality Centre. The whole ethos this time is centered on not just relaxation but fitness, enrichment and cuisine, underpinned by lots of new spa treatments including medi-spa treatments, complimentary exercise classes, yoga and pilates as well as the option to have your own personal trainer for the duration. The Vitality menu will be available in the main dining rooms, and lots of seminars onboard will focus on wellbeing with even shore excursions being available on subjects such as reflexology and meditation. The new spas will be available on all ships from the end of January 2020,

Kelly Hoppen, the famous interior designer from Dragons Den fitted out the The Spa on Celebrity Edge, and has proved very popular since first launch. The unique Crystalarium , a true aromatherapy suite with a salt therapy room, and floating basket chairs is very popular. The thermal suite, one of the largest at seas is free to Aqua class guests or $59 per day for other guests,a massage table filled with water cushions, a hot mineral body boost on table filled with quartz crystals and the usual treatments are available in this inspiring area.

The Mood Room at the Zagara Spa on the Silversea Silver Moon is illuminated in cool soothing blues and the experience continues through the 9 treatment rooms, with a thermal suite and exotic treatments such as a Thousand Flower Detox wrap and a Bamboo Muscle-Melt ! A sauna and steam room complete the suite with a hairdresser and nail bar also available.

On the new Saga ship the Spirit of Discovery the The Spa is proving a huge hit, and is managed by the Steiner brand, long known in the cruise industry for its hair salons, but this one has 5 treatment rooms with a free thermal suite with a hydrotherapy pool (also good for my back !) and 2 saunas and a steam room.Seaweed body wraps,a dedicated acupuncture room and a hair and nail salon complete the spa.

Luxury brand Champneys last year teamed up with Marella cruises on the Marella Explorer , and feature quite reasonable treatments such as an 80 minute hydro massage at £105 and a body Radiance Scrub at £75, perfect before you go off sunbathing.  A steam room and a blue room with heated loungers complete the facilities and lots of other treatments are on offer including teeth whitening !

Its a mouthful but Seabourn cruises mindful wellness curriculum has been voted best at sea and is overseen by Dr Andrew Weil, an acknowledged expert in the field of mindful meditation  and healthy ageing. Not only do they have a Spa but Spa Cabanas where treatments can be given.Motion studios and a complete Spa experience abound on these luxury ships.

Most cruise ships will have Spa facilities, MSC have the Aurea Spas,Cunard have the Mareel Spa as well as Canyon Ranch on different ships , and there is the Oasis on P&O’s Britannia just to name a few.On your next cruise why not try out some of these fabulous facilities, it would be rude not to !
