Crab.Cod and a not so whale of a time Part1

One of my favourite journeys in the last few years was in the brilliant state of Massachusetts, we had stayed in Boston before.overnight on a cruise including Boston and Maine.New England covers Vermont,Rhode island ,New Hampshire, Connecticut and Massachusetts, with Boston being its largest city. This time we flew straight to Boston and stayed in the popular midtown area within walking distance of the town hall, Fenway Park home of the Boston Red Socks, and the Freedom trail.

After a day’s shopping in the Back Bay area we strolled along Newman street, one off the most picturesque in the United States with its many one of a kind boutiques and little cafes serving exquisite pastries and  cured meats. The concierge at the hotel recommended that the following day we did a food tour of the Italian district, we booked with Secret Food Tours and our guide was a bohemian lady who had fabulous knowledge of where to find the best bakeries, butchers and restaurants in this vibrant area I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.A little jaded after the brisk walk and an argument with my lady wife about the virtues of cannelloni verses cannoli, the  afternoon we spent in Boston Common  relaxing with an authentic gelato, hired one of the swan boats then strolled back via the Prudential centre (and some shopping, just a little bag from the Saks Fifth Avenue store) when we spotted one of the famous Boston Duck tours departing, jumped onboard and saw fabulous city views, I will let the rest be a  surprise but well worth the 1.5 hours.
In the evening I felt the need for seafood and we made our way to another recommendation, the Barking Crab overlooking the harbour with views to die for ,it wasnt glitzy, but had an understated homely feel and I picked the combination dish of snow and king crab, very messy but divine. What a great evening in such a busy place. Time tomorrow for one last taste of Boston before we headed out to explore the rest of New England.Oh ,there was time for a cheeky Sam Adams at the hotel before bed.A quick mention that Bostons has some fabulous craft breweries,  i tried  the licorice beer at Boston Beer Works,it was truly great but please drink responsibly some of the craft beers are extremely high ABV. May I say the next day had nothing to do with my consumption this evening. The taste of Boston was not one I would ever repeat….to be continued…
The main cruise lines sailing out of Boston are Norwegian  Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean but many more stop at Boston as part of a longer cruise-e mail me for details
