Perth – The cold one!

Over Easter we decided on a little break away. We often head South visiting family but decided to head North to a little village called Dunning. This is about 8 miles outside of Perth in Scotland. We stayed in this lovely little cottage called Thimblewynd with a log burner and hot tub!

This was a great little home from home. The first night we stayed in the cottage and cooked. We had everything we needed in the compact kitchen. The weather forecast wasn’t great but it was dry so we made use of the hot tub which was a perfect temperature considering it was so cold outside.

The following day we took a little trip into Perth. We just spent time relaxing and having a wander through the shops but there is lots to see and do in the local area. Had the weather been a bit warmer we would have visited Scone Palace, the crowning place of the King of Scots including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce. Instead we headed to a local farm shop for Scones and clotted cream!

Dunning was a lovely little village and on our second night we headed to the local pub The Kirkstyle Inn. The food was lovely and reasonably priced too. We had a few drinks in the bar next to the open fireplace.  We then decided to head back to the cottage for a last dip in the hot tub. We stepped outside to 3 inches of snow! It had been cold during the day but the snow just seemed to come from no where. We spoke to a few locals who said the snow can come in quick but the roads always clear quite well.

I would definitely recommend Thimblewynd Cottage for a little break away. We are already planning to go back in the Summer to make use of the lovely garden and summer house. There is also so much to see in the local area that it is a great base for exploring. Its just a shame the weather wasnt on our side this time. Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow for this winter now?!
