Great British Service or Not? How do you feel about British Airways?

Im sure you have all seen the latest headlines with the failure of Thomas Cook. A name that has been around since 1841. This has hit the travel industry hard this week but in most cases there has been an outpouring of support for holiday makers and staff alike.

As recently as last year I wrote a blog about British Airways and how I felt about them as an airline our National Carrier? You can have a read of my blog here

This year we have visited Las Vegas and Los Angeles both times with Virgin and found the service superb. This blog though isnt about BA and its cost cutting. Its a story about the support or should I say LACK of to the Thomas Cook crew that have been stranded in the Caribbean & Mexico.

As recently as yesterday there were various social media posts showing the compassion of Virgin Atlantic in helping stranded crew get back to the UK. Now lets remember these crew have been stranded unlike holiday makers who will be repatriated on emergency flights provided by the CAA.

A flight from Orlando to Manchester with Virgin Atlantic offered the Thomas Cook crew seats in Premium Economy and Upper Class. They really looked after these people that were coming home to no jobs. Not just helping staff get home they have opened careers events just for Thomas Cook staff who no find themselves out of work just a few months before Christmas.

BA on the other hand have been deplorable. Many Thomas Cook crew have gone to social media to share their plight in trying to get home. There is the story of 8 crew stranded in Las Vegas who were kicked out of their hotel for Non- Payment by Thomas Cook. They headed to the airport to be told there were 3 empty seats on the next BA flight however they wanted to charge £10000 a seat! Yep thats right Ten Thousand Pounds a seat! Normally crew are able to sit in the Jump seats however BA informed the group they were no longer crew so they were not allowed to use the them. Eventually BA did come to the rescue but only after this gained interest on all social media platforms. It should never have come to this though.

What are your thoughts on our National Carrier? I say its time to hand over to Virgin Atlantic!
