Still Making History – Queen Elizabeth 2 Opens As A Floating Hotel

Nearly 10 years on from her final Voyage, this week Queen Elizabeth 2 finally opened her doors as a luxurious hotel.

After her famous final voyage back in 2008, Cunard sold the ship to Dubai government investment company Istithmar World with the intention of it being made turned into a luxurious hotel immediately.  The financial crisis had a big impact and plans were put on hold and the ship has sat in Port Rashid ever since.

Currently, 224 have been converted with the rest due for completion in Oct 2018.

Guests have a choice of 13 different rooms and suites to choose from ranging in size from 180 – 800 square feet. Basic rooms start from as little as £100 a night, which is excellent value for Dubai.

Keeping the traditional British theme onboard. Many of the original features like portholes and artwork have been restored and even the Golden Lion Pub has been renovated back to its former glory.

Hamza Mustafa, CEO of PCFC Hotels,  “To finally open the QE2 is a dream come true for my team and I. It is one of Dubai’s most highly anticipated projects and we know that a lot of people are going to be very excited to see her for the first time, or to step back on board the vessel that created so many wonderful memories during her 40 years at sea.” The transformation process was not easy, though, Mustafa explains. “We have dedicated more than 2.7 million man-hours into transforming this legendary ocean liner into the multi-faceted tourist destination that she is today and I am very proud to reintroduce her to the world as she embarks on the next stage of her celebrated journey. It has been an honor to work on this wonderful project and to help ensure that our lovely Lady lives up to her new slogan: still making history.”

So if you are cruising from Abu Dhabi or Dubai why make the trip even more memorable with a pre or post cruise stay at the Iconic QE2 .
