How do you choose yours.

When it comes to picking our holidays especially on a cruise the choice for many wil be different.

Is it the ship itself, the itinerary and for some its even the crew who are on board which will make them go back on board. I read many a review online about a certain cruise director with Royal Caribean who has fans flocking back.

What factors are important to you when booking? For me, it has mostly been driven by the cruise line and ship. I know for many the ports of call are more important hence our choice of cruise several years ago when we went to the Norwegian Fjords, chosen by my wife. I would much prefer to holiday in sunnier climes. However, she has also persuaded me to go again next year I guess I was persuaded by this time as it will be on P&O Cruises Iona, the new flags for P&O Cruises launching this year.  I have yet to go on a Caribbean cruise but live in hope!

Most departures for us have been from Barcelona with the usual ports of call such as Livorno, Naples, and Civitavecchia. Personally, I like to spend my days onboard whilst everyone else gets off to explore, especially as I’ve visited these ports on many occasions! It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the facilities, having them practically to yourself.

Venice is a fantastic departure port. It is a spectacular experience to cruise down the Grand Canal (something that wont be happening for very long now). Itineraries from Venice typically include Croatia and the Greek Isles. I have to say I make some exceptions to my ‘staying onboard’ philosophy with certain ports such as Santorini.

Last year my family sailed on RCI Oasis of the Seas. Again this is a Mediterranean cruise, departing from Barcelona, and the reason for this choice? – my daughter. I’ve been keen to take her on a ship like Oasis with all the fantastic things to explore onboard. She and I spent a lot of time swimming,  rock climbing and relaxing on board while the rest got off and explored, I am always envious when they get back on board and as my daughter gets older we will definalty get or more and show here the sights, however, for now, I enjoy our time onboard.
