Dorian Wreaks Havoc

Its that time of the year again hopefully this will be the worst!

Storm Dorian has wreaked havoc across the Caribbean in the last couple of weeks. The Bahamas have
been the worst hit as the hurricane became the worst disaster in the nation’s history. The death toll
here stands at 44 as the search for survivors continues. Images from the area show homes flattened and
cars thrown around like toys as the category 5 storm hit. Over the period of a day and a half, the
hurricane was stationary over the Islands with winds reported at up to 185 miles per hour.
When forecasters first reported the anticipated storm cruise lines held ships in ports and amended
itineraries to ensure ships were not in danger. This resulted in extended holidays for some passengers
but those awaiting embarkation had their holidays shortened or indeed canceled as ships became
displaced.
Many cruise lines have been quick to offer their support to the relief initiatives.
Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, and Disney cruise lines have said they are committing at
least $1 million to Dorian disaster relief and recovery efforts in the Bahamas.
Cruise lines that operate in the Caribbean area are also utilizing their ships to bring in food and
supplies, also volunteer to the worst-hit areas this is particularly welcome given that relief efforts have
been hampered by the damage and flooding to the country’s  airports.
