The World’s Most Luxurious Ship ?

I am sure many people watched the TV Documentary on Regent Seven Seas Explorer on Friday evening, dubbed ” the world`s most luxurious cruise ship” she certainly looked fab !

Having sailed on Regent Mariner a few years ago I know just how good Regent are, all about understated luxury and lots if space. Nothing is too much trouble, the food and staff were excellent and the ship just beautiful. Explorer was launched in 2016 by Princess Charlene of Monaco who is her Godmother, she then sailed on her maiden voyage from Monte Carlo, She is , of course, an all veranda ship carrying around 750 guest with 552 crew.

Luxury is everywhere onboard with  art by Pablo Picasso on the walls and a vivid cobalt-blue glass installation on the ceiling in the Compass Rose restaurant. The top suite on the ship, the 4,443 sqft Regent Suite,  has a bed which is reported to have cost £ 115000!

However she may be new but Mariner had lots of the same features and excellence too, Watching the programme I remembered the Block Party which takes place on all Regent ships after the lifeboat drill. As you return to your suite the cabins stewards are waiting with drinks for eveyone, a great way to meet your neighbours! How we both laughed when our cabin steward knocked on the door to ask what bottle of spirits we would like in or mini bar, on a ship where if you want a dink you just pick up  the phone and it will speedily arrive. We took our bottles home with us!

I found  the behind the scenes parts the most interesting though. I`ve always wondered what Butlers actually do, apart from unpack your suitcase for you ! To see the lengths the guy in the Regent Suiite went to to ensure perfection was great, he obviously is very good at this job. Also the attention to details by the hotel manager and housekeeping staff was a bit of a revelation, mind you for the price of that top suite you would expect the best.

The chef shopping in the local market was really interesting, no wonder the food on Regent is so good. Best of all though the laundry – however do they cope with all that washing, drying and ironing? All I can say is Regent have got it right and the next ship – Seven SeasSplendor – is on her way !
