The Nightmare Of Packing For A Holiday !

Watching the Royal wedding this weekend, and looking at the lovely outfits, I started to think about what I am going to pack for my Azamara cruise next week. Choosing an outfit for any special occasion can be daunting, and time consuming, and a Royal Wedding must be stressful to say the least but packing, for a holiday is another thing altogether!

The first cruise I ever went on was Fred Olsen Braemar sailing from Southampton. Packing for that was easy, just take everything you want as there is really no luggage restriction when sailing from a UK port. I travelled with a friend and we ended up with 4 suitcases plus a bag full of shoes between us !

Flying however is a different scenario altogether. A suitcase holding 20 or 23 kilograms is actually not that much when you think about it. When you could take toiletries in hand luggage that helped as, although the hand baggage allowance was only around 5 – 6 kilos, that weight now has to go into your hold baggage , and it takes up a lot of room ! I doubt that men have this problem as it always seems to the the women who have tot carry all the necessities like deodorant !

As you will know if you have read my blog recently,I am off to the South of France on Sunday.  The weather forecast is OK , sunny intervals and temperatures around 23 degrees but it is the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, and how many times has that taken place in the pouring rain, I seem to remember at least 4 or 5 times in recent years.

Azamara Quest has no ” formal ” evenings, lots of linen and resort casual are how the evening dress code is described. So I`ll start getting my outfits out with a bit of everything, dresses , trousers and tops , jeans , T shirts, lots of shoes, swimwear ( in the hope of an afternoon or two by the pool ) and must never forget my hairdryer as drying my hair with a cruise line one will take me ages. Definitely need my own!

All in packed and ready to go but I`ve forgotten that lovely new top I bought especially for the cruise, and the shoes to go with it, and now  there is no room in the suitcase for them ! Better tip it all out and start again !
