Celebrity Get A 10 from Me !

I arrived back home yesterday from my Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Celebrity Silhouette and it was really excellent , much better than I expected. I expected a lovely ship and beautiful scenery but this exceeded in every way. Where to start? At the beginning I guess, as I have discovered a few very useful tips and ideas if you are cruising on Silhouette or to the Fjords in the future.

I live around 2 hours away from Southampton and it should be a really easy, straightforward journey. This was a girly holiday and my friend and I set off early as it was Southampton Boat Show last week, and also a cricket match on Saturday,  and Celebrity had advised everyone to allow extra time to get to the port. Our allotted check in time was 1245, we set off at 8.30 and finally got on board around 2 pm. Boarding closed at 2.30 and she sailed at 4 ! Talk about stress, the traffic was awful and the 2 hour journey actually took well over 5 hours. Talking to Celebrity staff the traffic is always like this in Southampton, so next time I think maybe an overnight stay would be a good idea.

Oh and book your parking well in time ! I didn`t, should have known better, left it to the last minute  and all we could get was the on port shuttle which actually was excellent but just added more time to the journey. The staff though were great, took the luggage from the car in the shuttle car park, and it appeared very quickly outside our cabin. So, once we actually got to the port,  a great start.

Check in was probably the best I have ever experienced at Southampton. We walked straight in with no queues, unlike other cruise lines who shall remain nameless, checked in, walked straight onto the ship and were handed a glass of bubbles before going to our balcony cabin on deck 8. I`ve had this with other, much smaller cruise lines but for a ship carrying around 3000 passengers this was definitely not expected.  Another really good point no queuing for lifts either, even on check in day. They arrived really quickly and did so throughout the cruise.

The cabin was lovely, not massive but fine. The bathroom however was much larger than on most ships with a really good powerful shower and no nasty, tacky plastic curtains that stick to your bottom when wet! A proper large, glass shower cubicle with just the right amount of storage shelves, as did the bathroom which had loads of draws and cupboards. Hand towels were a bit on the small side but hey ho, you can`t have everything. The cabin itself had a good large mini bar/fridge with plenty of room to put your own water etc, in it. Plus by the mirror and really good lighting. Balcony is a good size too with 2 reclining loungers and a table.

Talking of plugs, I know most of this is a girly thing but , US 2 pin and European 3 pin. There are 3 plugs by the dressing table but only one is European 2 pin ! The other 2 are US 3 pin!

Last, but not least for now anyway, yes there are tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin ! Hurrah !!!

To top it all the weather was great so off we went on our journey top beautiful Norway!
