Royal Caribbean has just revealed that construction on the fifth Oasis-class ship has just begun.
The first piece of steel was cut at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard which is located in Saint-Nazaire, France, marking a major construction milestone for the future vessel.
A ceremony marked the special moment of potentially the new world’s largest cruise ship; executives from the Miami-based cruise line and shipyard attended the event in France.
The fifth Oasis-class ship will be completed in 2021 but is still yet to go through some major milestones, including the keel laying, float out on to the water for the very first time and sea trials.
Royal Caribbean will release further specific details about the ship between now and 2021.
Fans of the line know that the new vessel will be about identical to Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and the current world’s largest cruise ship Symphony of the Seas.
Fans are waiting to see which signature Royal features will be onboard, aswell as amenities never seen before.
Once completed, the fifth Oasis-class vessel will be at least 228,000 gross tonnes and boast a passenger capacity of over 5,500 at double occupancy.
Royal Caribbean recently took delivery of its new Asia-based ship, Spectrum of the Seas, and also has another new ship – Odyssey of the Seas- arriving in fall 2020.
