Will Britain Leaving The EU Ruin Your Holiday?

Will Britain Leaving The EU Ruin Your Holiday?

Whichever way you voted, the results are in and Britain has now decided to leave the European Union. Brexit won with a 52% majority, but what exactly does the result mean for your holiday?

One of the major outcomes of the decision to leave is the possibility that holidays will become more expensive.

We ran a poll earlier in the week (which you can read all about here) to find out whether you thought cruises could become more expensive in the wake of Brexit. 69% of you thought that it would not be more expensive to cruise if the Brexit campaign won.

But is this the case and what does this actually mean for holiday makers?

ABTA issued a statement to say: “Once the UK formally notifies the EU of its intention to leave, the remaining Member States will have up to two years to offer the UK a deal for a future trading relationship. This period can also be extended if all parties agree. Until this process is resolved, everything will remain as it is now.” So in other words, not just yet!

Whilst it is unknown what the effects will be long term, in the short term the cost of getting your Euros for a holiday has gone up due to the pound dropping. Our advice?

EveOur specialist cruise consultant Eve told us: “Lots of high street currency traders allow you to set up alerts to notify you when the pound becomes stronger against the Euro. My advice would be to set up some of these alerts so that when the pound recovers you can go and purchase some Euros for your holiday!”

So for the time being it seems we can all carry on holidaying as normal and enjoying cruises worldwide. And if changes are made and visas are introduced, you can be sure that all of our specialist cruise consultants will be able to advise you about all of the changes. Phew!

What do you make of the news? Were you happy with the result? Are You worried about the implication of leaving for your future holiday? Let us know in the comments below…
