Whenever Royal Caribbean launch a new ship, there’s nothing more exciting than being some of the first people to be invited onboard to experience everything that new ship has to offer. So when our cruise consultants Charlene, Ava, Jo, Carl, Lois and Frankie were invited onboard the brand new Wonder of the Seas, we couldn’t wait to hear exactly what they thought of Royal Caribbean’s latest addition to the fleet. On their return, we asked them all the important questions…
What was the embarkation process like?
Completed the online check in via the app. Covid Vaccine status took a few attepts to approve but all was approved the day before sailng. Check in at terminal was seamless and we were straight through.
Charlene, Cruise Consultant
Embarkation was a very easy process. I only queued for 10 minutes and then went straight through security to check-in. I hadn’t downloaded the app as I was having a problem with my phone so I had everything printed out. Overall, check-in was extremely seamless for me.
Lois, Cruise Consultant
What were your first thoughts as you stepped on the ship?
I have arrived !!! Big, bold and just WOW. Crew were happy and smiling and offered me drinks as I walked down the prom. Had to wait about 1 hour for my cabin, so strolled to central park and enjoyed a light bite.
Gemma, Cruise Consultant
The ship was much more classy / plush than I expected. Really thick carpets was my initial thought! Very clean, very shiny, very new. You embark on to the Royal Promenade which has so much to look at with old cars, giant cowboy hats, shops, bars and restaurants. A huge feeling of space.
Jo, Cruise Consultant
What was your first impression of your cabin?
I was in a 4D Balcony grade. The cabin was huge and had a large shower. There were USB sockets everywhere including on the desk and next to the bed which was great. There was also lots of storage space and the bed was very comfy!
Ava, Cruise Consultant
My cabin was extremely spacious with great clothes storage space, a wardrobe each side of the bed and a big chest of drawers too. My cabin was a cabin to sleep 4 with a sofa/bed. The bathroom was spacious and had a big shower cubicle with a curved glass door. I had a Balcony cabin no.11544 Plenty of plug sockets and USB points too.
Frankie, Cruise Consultant
What were your thoughts on the food available onboard?
There are loads of food options! I always like a buffet and really loved the seafood in the Windjammer. There was lots shrimps, lobster, squid, muscles, clams etc. The lobster & squid were huge portions, especially considering it’s a buffet restaurant. The Paella was great to go alongside it all too. There were plenty of choices for non fishy people too. We served ourselves – this is something people ask about in the covid world.
Jo, Cruise Consultant
On the first night I ate in the main restuarant and the food was excellent. On my second night I ate in Izumi which is Japanese sushi and the overall experience was amazing. The overall service was fantastic too.
Lois, Cruise Consultant
What were the bars like onboard?
Big choice of bars each with different signature cocktails. They weren’t crowded but I believe only 2500 were on board so low compared to full capacity. Having said that, I have sailed on Oasis Class at full capacity and you can always find a quiet spot in the Trelis bar in Central Park. I loved Playmakers located on the Boardwalk – Huge sports bar with plenty of screens to watch the sport.
Charlene, Cruise Consultant
What sort of activities did you get up to onboard?
My Favourite activity had to be the Zip wire high above the Boardwalk which I didn’t need to pre-book. Lots of different activities going on throughout the ship including laser tag (needed to pre-book); Escape rooms – would imagine need to pre-book but closed whilst we were on, Flowrider, slides, water slides & family play areas. Definitely something for everyone.
Frankie, Cruise Consultant
My personal favorite was the Ultimate Abyss – I just loved it. Real exhilerating ride down 10 decks with a celbratory drink in Playmakers at the end!
Charlene, Cruise Consultant
What was the entertainment like onboard?
The Aqua theater is out of this world! I reckon it’s the best I have seen on land or at sea.
Carl, Cruise Consultant
The ice skating show was amazing and it even snowed at the end! I also enjoyed the main show as the the dancing and singing was so good. You can tell they work so hard.
Gemma, Cruise Consultant
Who do you think this ship is best suited for e.g. families, couples, groups of friends, new to cruise etc?
There is something for everyone onboard. Many of my friends and family have already asked me to look at prices and I have already looked for myself!
Ava, Cruise Consultant
I would definitely take my family onboard and we range from teenagers to adults as there really is something for everyone. I loved the ship, the staff were great, all the foor and drink I got to try was also really good. I would recommend to anyone that wants the wor factor as well as lots of stuff to do.
Lois, Cruise Consultant
What top tips would you have for customers thinking about going on this ship?
Book a balcony cabin nearer a lift as it’s a very large ship. Make sure you go to Johnny rockets for breakfast as it is not chargeable but it is chargeble for lunch and dinner
Ava, Cruise Consultant
Book shows in advance so that you have a structure and save on missing out. Make sure you see Voices!
Jo, Cruise Consulant
