The Weird and Wonderful World of Cruise Line Carpets!

The Weird and Wonderful World of Cruise Line Carpets!

When you think about cruise ships you usually think about the amazing decor, the jaw-dropping activities you can get involved with or even the fantastic variety of food you can savour whilst onboard.

But have you ever thought or studied in detail the carpets cruise lines have on their ships?

Well no need to worry, our Hannah has done that for you.

Over the years of working in the cruise industry, Hannah has been on many different cruise lines and has taken up a particular interest in the carpets onboard. If you’ve ever taken a closer look whilst on your holiday you may have noticed how weird and wonderful they really are.

So we’ve gathered up some of Hannah’s best reviews from over the years of what she really thinks of cruise line’s carpets!

P&O Cruises  – Britannia

“With the beautiful decor and boutique hotel feel onboard the P&O Cruises Britannia, they have definitely played safe with the carpets. Apart from the Library carpet which made the floor look as though it was undulating, I can honestly say these carpets almost verge on domestic – almost! A far cry from some of the outstanding spectacles on board Ventura.”

Princess Cruises – Royal Princess

“Royal Princess has an overall very neutral feel to their carpets, and although you will see that some of them really are quite outlandish they looked stylish and really complimented the decor. In fact, I would go as far as to say that these are some loudest carpets I have ever seen!”

NCL Cruises – NCL Breakaway

“You can always be sure of some very unique carpets on an NCL ship and the Breakaway does not disappoint – colourful, bold and vibrant, although the ship as a whole has a very tasteful, sleek and modern feel about her. She is essentially like the Epic for those of you who are familiar with Epic, although improvements have been made. NCL continues to strive to be market leaders and Breakaway is proof of this as they constantly move forward.”

Holland America – MS Koningsdam

What never ceases to amaze me is that no matter how garish they are they never seem to look out of place, they always blend in with the surroundings and decor so beautifully. However fabulous they are though you would never, ever have the likes of them in your own home that’s for sure, yet they work so well on a ship.

Celebrity Cruises – Celebrity Eclipse

It never ceases to amaze me how these highly patterned, loud and gaudy carpets seem to blend in so seamlessly, and almost inoffensively, with the surrounding decor and furnishings on a cruise ship, yet they do. I can’t say that I would give any of them houseroom at Chez Wilson but there you go, each to their own.

What do you think about these cruise line carpets? Do you have any favourites? Or have you seen some amazing ones on other cruise lines? Let us know in the comments!
