Scream If You Want To Go Faster! The First Ever Rollercoaster At Sea!

Back in 2019 Carnival Cruise Line announceded the details of the first-ever roller coaster at sea onboard their newest ship, Mardi Gras. The line revealed its name as BOLT.

In July 2021 Carnival Cruise Line officially cut the ribbon and announced the ulitmate sea coaster as open! along with this came it’s first ever riders, AAA Vice President Strategic Partnership Development Scott Parker and Carnival Senior Vice President of Global Sales Adolfo Perez.

BOLT debuted to the public on Mardi Gras maiden voyage, from Port Canaveral, Florida to Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas on July 31.

Ultimate Sea Coaster: “a heart-pounding rush of adrenaline offering nearly 800 feet of exhilarating twists, turns and drops with riders reaching speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour.”

The all-electric roller coaster, designed by Munich-based Maurer Rides, will enable two passengers to soar in a motorcycle-type car 187 feet above sea level.

Riders can control their own speed as the track runs the perimeter of Mardi Gras’ top deck, including a loop around the line’s funnel.

Carnival guests should note that just like land-based roller coasters, a camera will capture riders’ photos, which will be available to purchase to take away at the end. Rider’s speeds are also shown at the end of the race.

“BOLT will continue the tradition of Carnival providing exciting new ways for our guests to ‘Choose Fun.’ We are so thrilled to introduce this one-of-a-kind, game-changing, exhilarating attraction — our guests are going to love it!”

Carnival Mardi Gras launched in July 2021 as the line’s largest ship within their excellence class, holding a passenger capacity of roughly 5,200 at double occupancy.

The ship’s name was revealed on popular gameshow “Wheel of Fortune” where it was also announced that it will be the first in North America to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), the environmentally-friendly fuel that produces nearly zero emissions.

The ships homeport is in Port Canaveral (Orlando) at a brand-new terminal designed specifically for vessels of its large size.
