P&O Cruises supports Macmillan Cancer Support

Celebrations are in full swing after it has been announced that P&O Cruises has helped raise over £600,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

For the past two years, the cruise line has been working closely with the charity and thanks to its employees and customers, has helped to raise the generous fund.

P&O Cruises set out to support Macmillan through a variety of fundraising initiatives, including the Isle of Wight challenge and inviting celebrity chef Eric Lanlard to Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to lead the head office bake-off.

Employees also took part in special events onboard a variety of P&O’s ships, such as officer and crew fitness challenges and weekly coffee mornings involving passengers.

The money raised will help to fund local Macmillan projects in a bid to make sure that nobody will face cancer alone.

One such project that is set to benefit from the proceeds is the Macmillan Healing Garden at Southampton General Hospital. Upon completion, this will be a tranquil area where cancer patients and their families can visit for some peace and quiet in between treatment.

Gerard Tempest, chief commercial officer at P&O Cruises, said: “Many of our colleagues who have taken on challenges for Macmillan have themselves been supported by the charity during a cancer experience, and it’s this personal understanding of the difference they can make that has driven us to such fundraising heights.

“I’m also delighted to know that the money we’ve raised will contribute to services right here in our local community, which is a truly fantastic legacy for everyone involved in the partnership.”

This year will also mark Macmillan’s 25th World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which will take place in September.
