Anthem One Step Closer to Southampton

Royal Caribbean’s brand new cruise ship could be set to take to British waters in a matter of weeks. The cruise liner is launching a Quantum-class vessel called Anthem of the Seas, which is currently berthed at Meyer Werft’s shipyard at the Em River in Germany. Its first float-out is taking place tomorrow (February 21th)  at 1:00pm which will give engineers the chance to see whether key systems including its stabilisers and thrusters are in full working order. The trip will also give Royal Caribbean a final opportunity to complete cosmetic work on the interior of the ship. Anthem of the Seas will be the sister vessel to Quantum of the Seas and will boast 16 decks. Once the float-out has been completed, it should be in service by the middle of March, which means British passengers could be enjoying its attractions in just a few weeks. Cruises aboard Anthem of the Seas will depart from Southampton and take in locations including the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Bayonne and New Jersey. The vessel weighs 168,600 gross tonnes and will be able to carry a total of 4,180 passengers, as well as 760 crew members. Its attractions will include various bars, a casino and a billiards room, along with a library and a workshop area where demonstrations, arts and crafts events and lectures can be staged. Passengers should also enjoy its...

Several cruise lines however have, for one reason or another decided they want to stand out from the crowd, to make sure you instantly recognise one...

Today is one of the most glorious days of the year; Shrove Tuesday, a day where a simple traditional recipe turns our kitchens into taste sensations, with a variety of flavours, fruits and treats centred around a world famous and iconic dish: the pancake. Are they dessert? Are they breakfast? That all really depends on what you decide to add, pancakes and fruit make a fine breakfast, while a dollop of ice cream makes a fine dessert. Or lunch. Or dinner. Or, hey, even a snack… The humble pancake has gone through many transformations as cultures on a global scale take the innocent fried snack and appropriate it to their own tastes, but which pancakes are you likely to find aboard your cruise? Well let’s take a look…   The British Pancake A large, very flat pancake, the British Pancake is one most of us would be familiar with. For many of us we have fond memories adding a squeeze of lemon juice and sugar – little bit of sour to mix with our sweet. Which, conveniently, sums up the British mantra nicely… The British Pancake is most definitely a P&O pancake – the line which proudly proclaims “British is Back” would scoff at the thought of adding something as sweet as ice cream.   The American Pancake Or should we say the “Pancake Stack.” Usually several, smaller and...
