*Update: P&O announced the decision to scrap gratuities in August 2018, taking effect from May 2019
Gratuities- it’s common knowledge that this is always somewhat of a controversial topic whether you’re in a restaurant, in a coffee shop or taking a delivery.
And in some ways, life on a cruise ship is a whole other world. We could really do with zero added stresses to what will be one of the most memorable holidays in all your years of travelling.
So P&O have made it a lot easier to step onboard fully prepared for how to approach the tricky topic of tipping; take a look below for that deep sigh of relief as all of your options are laid out for you…
Why Pay Gratuities At All?
Let’s start from the start
It isn’t always the easiest process rewarding good service every single time it happens onboard- enter P&O‘s Service Reward Programme!
This is what adds a discretionary amount to your onboard account each day to make it easier to say ‘thank you’ for any services you receive.
Rest assured, this helps to reward the waiters and buffet staff as well as the cabin steward or butler- all of which hugely appreciate your recognition of their hard work.
Saying ‘Thank You’ Made Simple
The honest truth
Whilst you’re at breakfast, on an excursion, in the pool, taking a walk on deck, enjoying a show in the theatre or heading for a good night’s sleep, P&O‘s staff are working hard to make your cruise as pleasant and memorable as possible.
This is from breakfast to cabin services, from lunch to afternoon tea, from dinner to drinks to your bed turn down!
Who is paid as part of the Service Reward Programme?
The service charge helps to reward various service personnel onboard, including restaurant waiting staff, cabin stewards and butlers.
How much is the Service Reward Programme charge?
The discretionary amount to your onboard account each day is £7.00 per person.
At what age, do cruise guests begin to pay this service charge?
All guests aged 12 years and over are amongst the passengers with the daily discretionary amount added.
Can you adjust the amount?
You can still increase, reduce or remove the total amount by speaking to reception onboard.
Can on board credit be used to pay for the Service Reward Programme?
Yes, it can.
What can you do to personally recognise a crew member that has gone the extra mile?
Welcome to the Cruise Outstanding Service Award
If you want to personally recognise a crew member onboard, you can nominate them for the Cruise Outstanding Service Award!
So, if a member of the crew goes the extra mile for you and/or your group, you can use the nomination card in your cabin or at reception to let P&O Cruises know.
It’s an amazing opportunity for crew members to gain recognition they deserve, as well as prizes and a cash award!
