It’s A National Treasure, It’s Adored By The World…Here It Is

It’s A National Treasure, It’s Adored By The World…Here It Is

Some have New York at the top of their bucket list, others are desperate to tick off a skydive but one thing that shouldn’t be overlooked is China’s adored creature…giant pandas!

They are living proof that conservation works (and the World Wildlife Fund will tell you so). They are in danger for a serious reason and adopting them can have a major positive impact on the environment!

Here’s everything you need to know about giant pandas and why they need to be bumped up your bucket list…

Or click here to see them for yourself…

1- Pandas are environmentalists themselves!

Giant pandas keep their forests healthy by spreading seeds in their droppings which helps vegetation to thrive…

This may not sound too helpful to you but it is very significant for local people! It is important for their food, income and fuel for cooking and heating.

2- Losing Numbers

Giant pandas are at a vulnerability as only 1,864 remain! They are affected by climate change, habitat loss and fragmentation.

The WWF’s work means the numbers are slowly starting to recover but they still remain at a lot of risk! It’s all due to human activities…

3- Riding Solo

As friendly as pandas look, they do actually lead solitary lives!

They’re pros at climbing trees and spend most of their time feeding (of which they spend 14 hours a day doing with 99% of their diet containing bamboo).

4- Think Bamboo

One wild Giant panda has starved due to the destruction of the bamboo, showing the importance of it!

The front paws of the pandas are actually very different to other bears because of one special bone in their wrist.

Think of how we use our own thumbs to pick up objects and food…giant pandas have a sixth toe which is used for grabbing bamboo!

5- Miniature Creatures

A newborn panda can be about the size of a stick of butter! This equals to about 1/900th of their mother, but can grow up to be up to 300 pounds.

6- Feels Like Home

Did you know giant pandas could once be found throughout eastern and southern China, northern Vietnam and northern Myanmar!?

Nowadays, you can only find them restricted to six mountain ranges in:

-Sichuan Provinces in South-central China

7- You Can See Them For Yourself!

If you head to Chengdu Panda Sanctuary, you’ll see the pandas very comfortable in their own habitat as it’s a zoo-like environment.

There’s hollowed-out logs and a wet bamboo forest the pandas make their dens in; whilst there are four panda reserves for you to choose from!
