From Glamour To Gala, From Smart To Showtime: Cunard Dress Codes Explained

With every cruise line laying down the law for dress codes in very different ways, sometimes a reminder is needed.

Cunard care for your preferences and extensive global research revealed that 13,000 guests aired their love for the glamour in a Cunard voyage and for that rare chance to dress up.

The line do not wish to change the dress code expected of guests but have updated the language used to describe the evening attire onboard. Here’s everything made clear:

During the day

Feel free to relax and dress as you please in all areas of the ship

From 6pm

On ‘informal’ nights, Cunard ask that you wear smart attire in most of the bars, restaurants and entertainment venues

On Cunard’s Gala evenings, dress is attire is formal and Cunard invite you to dress to impress as you celebrate onboard. There are two or three Gala evenings for every seven days of your voyage

Informal/Smart attire

Gentlemen, on ‘informal’nights, are requested to wear smart trousers with a shirt and jacket, and a tie is optional

Ladies are requested to wear blouses and skirts or stylish trousers, and dresses are welcome

Formal/Gala evenings

This means showtime so a dinner jacket, tuxedo or dark suit is required for the men with a regular tie or bow tie.

For the ladies: evening dresses, cocktail dresses, smart trousers suits or formal separates are required.

Cunard note to guests that if you prefer to spend your evenings in more relaxed attire, feel free to dress casually as you visit any of the following venues: Kings Court or Lido Buffet, Golden Lion, Casino, Carinthia Lounge, Winter Garden/Winter Lounge and G32 or Yacht Club.

Non-ripped jeans are appropriate, but guests must refrain from wearing shorts, sports attire, swimwear or sleeveless t-shirts outside of the gym, spa and deck spaces.
