Famous Faces to Join 2022/2023 Saga Cruises Sailings

Some famous faces will bring some celebrity sparkle on board a select number of Saga Cruises sailings in 2022 and 2023.

The cruise line has confirmed four musical theatre, broadcasting and cookery stars will be performing, hosting cooking demonstrations and taking part in Q&As as part of several Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure itineraries.

Lancashire-born opera singer Alfie Boe will be performing on Saga Cruises’ Morocco and the Islands of the Atlantic itinerary, departing on 15 November 2022.

The musical theatre veteran, actor and singer has sold-out three UK tours and has achieved platinum album sales in the UK and has achieved four top 10 album spots.

Most notably, Alfie has led the cast of Les Miserables – as protagonist Jean Valjean of the critically acclaimed French musical – for more than a year and performed at the epic Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert outside of Buckingham Palace in 2012.

Alfie will dazzle cruise guests on board the Spirit of Discovery with his incredible tenor talent against the backdrop of sun-drenched islands in the Canaries as part of the 19-night cruise.

ITV’s This Morning regular presenter, chef and cookery book author Phil Vickery will be delivering tasty cooking demonstrations on board Saga Cruises’ Cape Verde and the Canaries itinerary departing on 15 November 2022.

Before becoming a daytime TV favourite, Phil was previously Head Chef at The Castle Hotel in Taunton where he won four Rosettes in the AA guide and a Michelin star, alongside a myriad of other top food awards and accolades including The Times’ Restaurant of the Year.

Known also as a leading expert on gluten-free products and recipes, Phil has also starred on UK TV cookery programme favourites such as Ready Steady Cook, Proof of the Pudding, Phil Vickery’s Pudding Club, ITV’s Save Money and Good Diet.

Phil will be cooking up a storm on board the Saga Cruises’ Spirit of Adventure, sailing for 19 nights.

National Television Award winner for Best Daytime Presenter Kevin Woodford will be hosting a ‘Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook’ masterclass, and a Q&A session with guests on board Saga Cruises Spirit of Discovery departing on 31 October 2022.

While working at one of the most prestigious cookery colleagues, Kevin was discovered by a producer at the BBC and has since gone on to host a range of culinary programmes including BBC Holiday, Ready Steady Cook, Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook and The Reluctant Cook.

Including stopping at coastal paradises in Portugal, Spain and France, the Flavours of the Western Mediterranean itinerary will be a gastronomical delight for passengers cruising on board the Spirit of Discovery.

Saga Cruises has also revealed that infamous broadcaster, composer, pianist and former member of rock band Squeeze, will perform on a variety of sailings next year.

Earlier this year Saga Cruises confirmed that Jools would be joining two Spirit of Discovery cruises, but the cruise line has now confirmed even more sailings that Jools will be joining between February and September 2023.

Jools will perform some of his most popular toe-tapping hits, including Barrel House, Take Me, Peace in the Valley and How Sweet It Is in Saga Cruises’ Playhouse Theatre, which can seat more than 400 guests.

Jools and his band will perform on the following itineraries:

Colours of the Canaries departing February 2

Arctic Norway and the Northern Lights departing February 18

Venice and the Treasures of the Adriatic departing April 9

Contrasts of Scandinavia departing May 21

Islands of the Western Mediterranean departing August 20

Ancient Cities of the Eastern Mediterranean departing September 4

We’re delighted to welcome back Jools Holland – he’s a huge favourite with our guests – as well as Alfie Boe, Phil Vickery and Kevin Woodford, who we know will be enormously popular.

We also revamped our onboard shows in the theatre and Britannia Lounge earlier in the year, and our popular dance hosts have been reintroduced to accompany guests on the floor, so our entertainment really is something special.

Nigel Blanks, CEO of Saga Cruises

The celebrity guest appearances on the range of Saga Cruises sailings will take place alongside the expansive array of entertainment already lined up for each fantastic cruise.
