River Cruise line Emerald Waterways are set to enter the Ocean Cruise market in 2021 with their first ‘super yacht’, Emerald Azzurra.
The 110m long, 100 passenger super yacht will launch in July 2021 offering around 47 itineraries. As well as featuring some smaller, ‘off the beaten track’ ports of call that larger cruise ships cannot reach, the yacht will stop in coastal waters so guests can jump off the marina platform, to go snorkelling and paddle-boarding.
Mirroring the Emerald Waterways river experience, the cruise fare will include return flights, transfers, tipping/gratuities, all meals, complimentary drinks (wine, beer and soft drinks) as well as shore excursions.
Emerald Azzurra will feature three different bars and restaurants and just fifty cabins onboard, 88% of which will have balconies.
“There’s nothing quite like her in the market,” said Colin Downing, the Scenic Group UK managing director.
After a successful season chartering ships along Croatia’s Dalmatian coast in 2019, the river cruise line has significantly upped the ante.
“Dalmatia gave us the appetite and the idea,” he explained. “We thought: ’Why are we messing around chartering when we can just build our own’?”.
“We really do feel we’ve created a new type of cruising,” added Emerald’s director of marketing and global brand curator, David Winterton.
“With Azzurra, we’re taking what Emerald does on the rivers – many of the same venues and that same inclusive proposition – and taking it onto the ocean, but in a boutique, intimate way.”
