Just one month after Celebrity Cruises announced the news of a new expedition ship exclusively for one destination, a keel-laying ceremony has taken place.
Celebrity Flora is the expedition ship being custom-built for sailing around the Galapagos Islands; the ceremony took place at the shipyard in Tolkamer, the Netherlands.
As a part of the keel laying, a 49.2 tonne block was lifted in the air and a lucky coin was placed in the dock before the block was lowered into position.
Celebrity Flora will sail from Baltra year-round, making its debut on May 26th 2019 and will alternate between seven-night inner and outer loop itineraries.
Guests can look forward to an array of features that will include the outdoor Ocean Grill, serving fresh local ingredients and seafood; an upper-deck observatory with cozy seating and a library; The Vista open-air lounge with cocoon-style chairs, private cabanas and a hot tub; a marina stocked with Zodiacs; and environmentally-friendly systems, including anchorless technology that can maintain the ship’s position while also protecting the sensitive sea floor.
The 100-guest vessel will be one of the most energy-efficient ships of its size in the archipelago and will offer guests seamless sea-to-shore transportation, including anchoress technology that keeps the ship in place without damaging the sea floor.
The ship’s outward-facing design and will virtually erase boundaries to bring the destination closer to guests onboard, and the all-suite accommodation will add the most luxurious feel to the adventure.
