Celebrity Cruises First All-Female Crew

Celebrity Cruises First All-Female Crew

March 2020 will see Celebrity Cruises first all-female crew. The first American female cruise ship captain, Kate McCue, will be leading the team of 26 women.

The 27 strong crew onboard Celebrity Edge will have three British women onboard; first officer Rachel Arnold, cruise director Sue Denning and guest relations director Julie Sherrington.

This historic sailing celebrating International Women’s Day is part of Celebrity Cruises #BRIDGEthegap initiative. The initiative highlights the sector being male-dominated when it comes to leadership roles.

Celebrity Cruises said although only 2% of the world’s mariners are women, its bridge teams are 22% female.

Captain McCue said, “Excitement does not even begin to describe how I’m feeling about working alongside these incredible, barrier-breaking women on Celebrity Edge for this truly historic sailing.”

The itinerary will feature a Women of the World Trivia Quiz, Fearless Female Officers vs. Guests Pool Volleyball tournament and a Q&A panel with the ship’s inspiring female leadership team. Highlights will also include gallery exhibitions and auctions featuring female artists and a cinema showcase of iconic female directors.

“I am inspired every day by the amazing women we have working throughout this organisation – both on land and at sea. They’re proof that there’s power in diversity.” said Kate McCue.
