An Introduction To Disney Cruise Line: Magic & Splendour At Sea

World-famous Disney Cruise Line offers a magical blend of Disney’s signature storytelling and top-notch experiences at sea.

You may have heard of Disney Cruise Line before and just skimmed over it, assuming it’s strictly for the kids. However, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised at the variety of passengers and amenities onboard Disney Cruise Line.

In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at what Disney Cruise Line has to offer for discerning cruisers, from some of the very best entertainment at sea to scrumptious onboard food and drink. Read on to discover everything you need to know about Disney Cruise Line…

Is There a Typical Disney Passenger?

As you may have already guessed, Disney Cruise Line is hugely popular with young kids and avid Disney fans. And you’d be right in thinking that all the cruise line’s ships are massively family-friendly! You can expect a Walt Disney Theatre that spans three decks, Disney characters wandering around the ship and of course, reliable kids’ club.

But Disney Cruises hasn’t forgotten about the adults, because, alongside kid-friendly facilities, you’ll find an exclusive spa, grown-ups-only eateries and adult-only pools onboard Disney’s ships.

Meet The Fleet

Disney Cruise Line has an ever-expanding fleet of superships, all equipped with practically perfect amenities, accommodations and facilities. Here’s a quick overview of Disney Cruises’ current fleet:

Disney Dream: A 14-deck ship featuring stunning early 20th-century design.
Disney Fantasy: Sister ship to Disney Dream boasting tons of Art Nouveau allure.
Disney Magic: A signature Disney ship home to comfortable public areas and high-quality entertainment
Disney Wish: Contemporary Disney stories are brought to life onboard this lofty, modern and enchanting ship.
Disney Wonder: Beloved by Disney fans for its classic design and 11 decks of fun.

Onboard Entertainment

You can, of course, rely on most things onboard a Disney cruise to be Disney-related! You’ll be treated to breathtaking Disney stage productions and, weather permitting, a firework display at sea (what could be more magical!)

There’s a Walt Disney Theatre onboard, and Buena Vista Cinema that shows both classic and fresh Disney flicks. Disney stage shows hosted in the Walt Disney Theatre are some of the most spectacular stage shows at sea, with popular Disney stories, including Beauty & The Beast and The Little Mermaid, complete with amazing props, costumes and awe-inspiring performers.

Disney ships also have a great array of slides and watercoasters, some of which are clearly visible when you step onboard! The AquaDuck slide, for example, is a transparent acrylic tube that propels riders along on a raft up and down four decks! It even swings 13 feet off the side and 150 feet above the ocean (well, children are meant to be the most fearless!) If that’s too adventurous for the young ones though, there’s a smaller Mickey Mouse water slide.

However, thrillseekers onboard will love the twists and turns of the breathtaking Aqua Dunk waterslide that’s almost a straight vertical drop that takes riders out over the edge of the ship and back – a simply unforgettable experience!

Food And Drink

No matter what your taste or preferences for meal times and dining, Disney has something for everyone!

Disney offers a unique rotational dining service, whereby guests can dine at three special main dining rooms throughout their cruise. These dining rooms can vary by ship but can include Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, Lumiere’s, Royal Court, Tiana’s Place and Carioca’s.

Guests are welcomed to the table and enjoy dinner served by the same waitstaff who can get to know them, and their likes and dislikes over the duration of a voyage no matter where they’re dining!

Aside from rotational dining, there are tons of other exceptional dining options to choose from:

Casual and quick service dining: Feeling a little casual? Head to a variety of quick-service eateries, including Flo’s Cafe, Cabanas and Frozone Treats, for some laid-back table service where no reservation is needed and choose between seafood, fresh salads, Italian-style pizza, pasta and more!

Room service: for the days you’re a little too cosy in your cabin, complimentary room service is available for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. It’s included in your cruise price and on the final night it’s even available until 1.30am!

For a fee, Disney also offers a range of speciality dining to choose from too:

Remy: Come here if you fancy a relaxed, adults-only, dining experience. The ultra-rich French food will leave you dreaming once you’ve hit home.

Palo: Expect to be wined and dined in a sultry, exclusively for adults restaurant serving up authentic Italian cuisine, from lobster ravioli to homemade tiramisu.

Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats: This colourful dessert shop is perfect for everyone with a sweet tooth! Here, you can pick up candy apples, cupcakes, ice cream, and even truffles!

Family Friendly Facilities

There are plenty of activities to get involved in for the whole family onboard a Disney cruise!

Disney’s Oceaneer Club spans an entire deck and features supervised programmes for ages 3-7 (note that the group is split into two; ages 3-4 and 5-7, so every child feels they fit in!) It features the Oceaneer Lab that offers high-tech interactive programmes, hands-on science experiments and ship-wide treasure hunts!

There are also dedicated kids clubs for teenagers too, like Edge-the loft style lounge filled with high-tech fun for tweens (ages 11-14) and Vibe – a trendy venue with a coffee bar, media room and exclusive sun deck (for ages 14-17). Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to answer trivia questions to win toppings and create your perfect pizza, and Zombified where you can play a zombie extra in a Hollywood performance of tweens in a scary movie!

Amenities

We all love uploading lovely family pictures to make friends and family at home jealous of our holidays! Staying connected onboard a Disney ship is easy, as all ships have onboard WiFi, available in all staterooms and public areas, which you can easily connect to, for an additional fee.

And speaking of pictures, make sure you get one next to the atrium lobby statue that celebrates a classic Disney character (a different one on each ship!). Whether it be Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse dressed in her vintage fashion holding her parasol or Donald Duck striking a pose, get your staple holiday snap!

Disney’s unique features get even better: you know the feeling when you stay in the pool for hours on end, still don’t want to leave but you’re feeling a little chilly? Well no need to worry about that on a Disney cruise ship, because all of the pools are heated when the water temperature drops (Disney’s got your back!).

Staff, Dress Codes and Gratuities

As you may have guessed, dressing up is welcome on Disney cruises – good news for any young ones desperate to wear their new princess dress or pirate costume! On most seven-night cruises there is one formal night and one semi-formal night, so pull out your best frocks and tuxedos to feel the part!

During the day and non-formal nights, casual attire, including shorts, tank tops, trousers and dresses are fine to wear.

As for gratuities, Disney allows you to pay gratuities in advance or on board, whatever suits you best, and it is still up to individual guests whether to pay at all. The recommended gratuities are $14.50 USD per day per guest, and are distributed to dining room waiters, assistant waiters, head waiters and stateroom hosts. An automatic 18% gratuity is added to all bar, wine, deck service, spa and drinks services.

In conclusion, Disney Cruise Line not only offers the magic of iconic Disney characters, films and TV shows, but also a whole host of unforgettable activities, restaurants and entertainment options for all the family. If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure at sea, choose Disney Cruise Line.
