A Solo Exclusive Cruise Ship

There has been lots of news in the river cruising world over the last week! So here is a round-up of the biggest stories…

Scenic

Scenic Tours have ordered two new ships for 2016- 2017 season. This is in addition to the recently announced Scenic Aura and Scenic Spirit which are also on order for 2016. All four will be built to Scenic “space ship” standard, which has suites that are over 50% larger than those on Scenic’s previous boats.

Tom HarperTom Harper River Journeys has revealed their plans to build a new river ship which will cater predominantly to solo travellers. The ship will be called the MS Birdsong and will offer 132 square foot cabins – without the usual single supplement charge! The ship will also have French balconies in cabins as standard and have one of rivers largest fitness centres and wellness centres on-board. Sounds like bliss to us!

AmaWaterwaysAmaWaterways has entered a partnership with Backroads to give their guests expert led cycling excursions. This way guests can see more of the cities they visit by cycling around the area whilst still receiving expert commentary. The excursions will include several expert trip leaders, flexible itineraries, custom titanium bicycles and a range of cycling routes that will suit guests – whether they’re Lance Armstrong or those that prefer a slower pace!

CroisiEuropeCroisiEurope have also announced that that they will be adding three more ships next year to join their 40 strong fleet. Two of these ships will be 24 passenger canal barges which will take passengers to France (the MS Daniele and MS Deborah) and one will be a 60-passenger vessel which will sail the Mekong (called the Princesse Aspara.)

Sounds like its set to be a busy year for river cruising! Will you be taking a river cruise? Let us know in the comments below!
