It’s inevitable that sometimes you’ll have to hop on a plane to meet your cruise ship. Although, we know that in an ideal world all ships would go from Southampton and we’d all be happier for it. But flying to your ship doesn’t have to be as bad as you’ve made it out to be! Some of you may avoid once-in-a-lifetime cruises just because you have to fly to the port. But miss out no longer, because we’ve come up with our top 10 tips to make your flight as pleasant as possible!
You’d be surprised how a little flight etiquette can go a long way on your trip and how things like sitting in your assigned seat and not bringing smelly food on the plane can make the world of difference. Keep reading to find out more…
DO:
Pack Light
If you can we’d recommend putting everything into your carry-on luggage. Not only is it much cheaper because you don’t have to pay extra luggage costs, but you won’t have to spend ages waiting around for your bag at the dreaded carousel! Or even worse, what if it doesn’t turn up?!
Be Considerate
This goes without saying, but once you’re on the plane, be considerate. Its simple things like minding others’ personal space by not fighting over armrests, being polite, and being clean and don’t be too loud either. Trust us, not everyone wants to hear about the wild weekend you’re going on…
Sit In Your Assigned Seat
Before you board double check your seat and row numbers! If you have to move around it can disrupt the boarding process making it take even longer than it needs to. Also, how annoying is it when someone’s sat in your seat and you have to faff around asking them to move?
Remember Plastic Bags
You never know when you’re going to get an extra strict security person. There’s really nothing worse than having to throw away expensive or needed items just because you forgot something as simple as to bag it up! Sometimes caution really does pay off.
Use Your Headphones
Believe us, no-one absolutely no one wants to hear the latest episode of your favourite TV show (apart from you of course). It’s a fast way to irritate fellow passengers trying to get some much-needed shut-eye before they land. Don’t forget to bring headphones for the kids too, there are only so much angry birds you can hear before you feel like hurling yourself off the plane.
DON’T:
Be Late
We know how easy it can happen, you’re on time, you’re going to make your flight with loads of time to spare and then life happens. The biggest cause of lateness when catching flights is not leaving enough time for last-minute checks, so make sure you triple-check that you’ve packed your passport! If you end up missing your flight they’ll remove your luggage from the plane, in some cases we’ve heard that they’ve actually thrown it off!
Over Stress
Flying can be scary and stressful stuff, but you can rest assured that it’s been made to be very very safe over the years. If you’re starting to feel like you’re panicking, recline your seat back, take some really deep breaths and think of your happy place. It sounds overly simple but trusts us, it really works! It can also help if you’re feeling travel sick.
Bring Smelly Food
We know that on a long flight you need snacks and it’s often the case that airplane food is expensive and less than desirable on your taste buds. But please bear in mind what food you actually bring with you! Planes are enclosed, tight spaces and the last thing needed is a smelly tuna sandwich in the mix.
Be Rude To Security
At the end of the day, they’re just trying to do their job. You’d definitely be in a bad mood too if you had to frisk countless people all day… Even more so when they’re rude and act like you’re inconveniencing them, it’s not like they’re doing it for your safety after all… Believe us, manners and a smile will make the entire process as quick and painless as possible.
Wear The Wrong Clothing
The worst thing you can wear on a flight are tight clothes. They restrict the blood flow and can make you very uncomfortable, and after all, is fashion really worth it for varicose veins? Wear light breathable clothes for optimum comfort. Also, wear comfortable shoes! We recommend slip-ons, they’d make airport security a breeze when you have to take your shoes off!
So there you have it, that’s our top 10 dos and don’ts for flights! Do you agree with these? Is there anything that you think should be included on the list?
