A visit to the the spa leaves you relaxed or ripped off ??

Most people  do indulge in a bit of pampering whilst on a cruise ship and they certainly are a relaxing haven where you can  let the stress melt away .There is just one thing and its a BIG thing that is putting people off a traditional visit to the Spa and it is not the initial cost . Whilst  you can expect the cost to be generally higher than you will get on the high street  there are some great offers to be had these spas seem more focused on the BIG HARD SELL and their bottom line.

What does this mean for you?  Well having been on a cruise in the summer  every time I stepped foot in the Spa I was given the total full on hard sell of every single lotion and potion going and boy were they good !! I really thought this was a one off as I hadn’t really experienced it before so didn’t think to  much about this until a started reading some reviews and then a friend who has just returned with her two daughters off a cruise told me that they spent over a £1000 on extras in the Spa.

Read on for what to avoid when all you want to do is relax and my solutions for what to do to make sure this happens.

The Hard Sell

The employees in the spa’s are employed via agencies and not the cruise ship or company usually . They are  trained and instructed to sell their products not just the treatments and usually start  when you arrive by getting you a cheaper price if you buy x, y and z . Unless you want and use these products obviously it is not cost effective to buy them and make sure you tell them to take no for an answer . They then usually  switch it up a gear when you feel amazing having had your treatment and prescribe the products for long lasting results and dont be fooled they will cost you more than the treatment.

The Miracle Treatment

Different spa’s have different names for treatments but it all boils down to the same treatment and us ladies are lured in huck, line and sinker !!  We are told they can reduce the appearance of cellulite with magic ointments and that after one session only we had lost inches from our  hips, thighs , bums and tum’s we would be putty in their hands wouldn’t we ?? 3

Any Treatment That Requires a Needle

You would think  the last thing you would want or be offered on a cruise ship would be cosmetic work done at sea but these agencies are sending staff on three day training courses and are offering  Botox, dermal fillers, lip enhancements, and wrinkle treatments administered via needle by a “spa physician.

The Gold facial

As yet I have not been offered or even seen this in any spa I have visited however I would either run a mile because it will scream EXPENSIVE or I will be sucked in as ‘Who doesn’t love gold? This supposedly aids anti aging but lets face it  we all have to grow old at some point and i’m sure that one treatment on a 2 week cruise holiday will not have the desired affect.

A Toothy Mistake

The only was is Essex’s favourite and defenatly  the latest craze around  as we would all love to flash a mega white smile against our suntans whilst holidaying  BUT before you sign up consider this: Fast, intense tooth whitening can cause sensitivity and even pain. Plus there will be certain food and drinks you will have to go without for at least three days

My advise to you :

Tell the consultants in the spa upfront that you do not wish to buy any of their products or if they are good tell them you bought the products on the last cruise you were on should keep them off your back for a while . Don’t attend the free on board “seminars” about beauty and weight loss because they’re almost always sales pitches for treatments that aren’t guaranteed to produce results.    THEN RELAX and enjoy
