York for my birthday

As you are reading this I am in York with my husband Adam to celebrate my birthday on 7th October.

I haven’t been to York since I was at school & can’t really remember any of it.  Adam has never been to York so will be nice to see somewhere new.

York is a walled city in northeast England that was founded by the ancient Romans. Its huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. The City Walls form a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. The Monk Bar gate houses an exhibition tracing the life of 15th-century Plantagenet King Richard III.

So what will I see in York?  I have no idea yet but we will want to see the smaller villages around that are featured in Downton Abbey as we love that programme.  Thirsk is one of them and is about 36 min drive away so we’ll definitely go here. Rippon is another place I hope we can go and is about 45 mins drive away.

I definitely want to do the City Cruise as love a good boat trip of any kind. Also, I’d love to do the Dungeon but can I persuade Adam?

I want to walk the wall also and will take lots of photos.

You will have to read my blog all about York once we are back so I can tell you what we did do!

We are staying at The Mercure Fairfield Manor Hotel for 2 nights with breakfast from 6th October.

I just hope the weather is kind to us and doesn’t rain.

I look forward to filling you in on my adventures once we get back.

I will have also been on MSC Preziosa so will have lots to tell you about for the last couple of weeks travelling.
