Ships are Ships aren’t they?

So the other week I took my hubby Adam to Portsmouth for a few days for his birthday on 26th June.

He used to be in the Navy and hasn’t been down to Portsmouth for a while so when I asked him what he wanted to do, this was his request.  So I booked the days off work and sorted a hotel out.  We went on Monday 25th June as he is a DJ so works weekends so easier to go midweek and his birthday was the next day.

We stayed at the Village Hotel as I’m a member of the gym here in Coventry so I get discount, I booked a club room as has all the new gadgets with it being a new hotel which opened in November 2107.

It was a nice hotel and very modern, not quite what I’m used to and it is a bit out of town, approx 15-minute drive but we didn’t mind.  The hotel room phone was a mobile, there was an Alexa in there, top of the range coffee machine & the best of all a Dyson fan. Now when it comes to the bathroom, I’m not sure – all glass & see through until you hit the privacy glass button and the windows cloud over but not the door so not very private at all.

See what I mean about the bathroom door – design fault I would say!

Anyway, we had a lovely time and wandered down to Portsmouth Historic Docks as Adam wanted to go on the ships – not quite a cruise but still a ship – yeah?

We had purchased a yearly ticket for half price to visit 11 attractions within the Dockyard so could go on the ships and have a look around.

We visited the HMS Warrior first and had a wander around – very interesting and Adam was in his element.  He chatted to all the staff and got lots of info about the ship.  Then we had a coffee on board in the cafe.

We also did a harbour tour which is included in the ticket, this was 45 minutes and went around the naval ships docked in the harbour.  We saw HMS Queen Elizabeth which is brand new and will hold up to 60 aircraft – this was pretty awesome to see.

After the harbour tour, we headed to Gunwharf Quays which is a shopping outlet and had a look round the shops ending up in M&S outlet and got some great bargains for our forthcoming cruise in 2 weeks.

We headed back to the hotel to freshen up & have dinner.  The meal was great and the staff fantastic so couldn’t fault it. I would probably stay here again.

The next morning we went back to the dockyard and went to see HMS Victory this time, I  have been on this one before about 8 years ago but was still good to see. Again Adam spoke to all the staff about the ship – I’m sure a question in one of his quizzes will come about these ships.

We had great weather for the 2 days too so even nicer to walk around in the sunshine.

We also went on the M33 ship and had a look around, not very big at all this one.

After a visit to some gift shops & museums, we had lunch then set off home as going out for dinner with Adam’s mum & sister.

All in all, we had a great few days and Adam enjoyed his birthday.

The tickets we bought are valid for a year so at least we can go again if we wish as didn’t see everything this time.
