Bigger is better or is it?

Does size matter?

It does when it comes to cruise ships for me anyway but all cruisers are different.  I have customers who will only sail on small ships and some that want a big ship.

After my latest encounter onboard Cruise & Maritime’s Marco Polo –  definitely a big ship for me as on this ship I suffered from Seasickness for the first time ever in all my years of cruising.

Marco Polo is an older ship and entered service back in August 1965 so she is 53 years old.  She was rebuilt in 1993 then Cruise & Maritime have owned her since 2010 and cover a lot of the world.

Speaking to passengers onboard, they love this little ship and go all over on her.  One of the common factors is that she sails from smaller ports in the UK e.g. Bristol (Avonmouth), London Tilbury, Liverpool & Newcastle to name a few so great if you don’t want to travel south to Southampton to join your ship.

We had a category 12 Premium Twin Oceanview cabin no 447 on Pacific Deck,  it was very spacious and plenty of storage room and the bathroom was adequate size also but with a shower curtain.

Marco Polo info…

22,080 tonnes
800 passengers
356 crew
19.5 knots
8 passenger decks
1 main restaurant
1 buffet restaurant
5 bars
1 pool
3 whirlpools
gym
sauna
salon
shops
card room
library

Marco Polo is a nice ship if you wish to relax and not have loads going like waterslides, rock climbing walls etc like the bigger ships.

There is no kids club hence why she is adult only.  No casino either so if you like a dabble then not for you.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the show on the last night due to being seasick and didn’t leave my cabin. We had a great night in Scott’s Bar on the 1st night which was our fancy dress.  I covered this on my last blog, click here if you didn’t see it..

On the 2nd night, the ship docked in Dublin overnight so we headed to the city to experience Dublin by night.  We had a private venue at Bob’s Bar in Temple Bar area with drinks & food & plenty of dancing to live music.  It was a great night.  Be prepared though as lots of walking in Dublin to get around.  We got the bus there from the ship then had a 25-minute walk to Temple Bar so we got a taxi back to the ship.

When in Dublin – have to try a Guinness!

I have done Dublin a few times now but still, love it & will probably go again.

I hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas and all your dreams come true in 2019 & if I can help that dream with a cruise then give me a call on 0330 303 8208 or email – [email protected].

Happy Cruising…..
