A lovely day at Birmingham Airport….

On Tuesday last week I was lucky enough to spend the day at Birmingham Airport to view Emirates A380 aircraft.  The day was organised by P&O Cruises as the Oceana is based in Dubai later this year so you can fly Emirates to join the ship.  I will do more on this in my next blog.

I have flown on this aircraft in economy when I went to Australia 2 years ago but wasn’t lucky enough to fly business class, but now I’ve seen the business class cabin I will definitely fly business next time (if I can afford it).

We started the day with an overview of the Emirates aircrafts & routes and information about Birmingham Airport….

Did you know??

Birmingham is the World’s most Punctual airport…………..

The A380 aircraft is used for all Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester & Birmingham flights to Dubai:-

Heathrow – 6 daily flights
Gatwick – 3 daily flights
Manchester – 3 daily flights
Birmingham – 2 daily flights

The A380 has 615 seats, 58 in business class & 557 in economy. Lower deck is 3-4-3 configuration and has 437 seats.
The upper deck has 2-4-2 configuration at the front with economy seats – 120 in total & 58 business class seats at the rear.

The B777 is used for Glasgow, Newcastle & Stansted (this is an new service which begins June 2018)

Glasgow – 2 daily flights
Newcastle – 1 daily flight
Stansted – 1 daily flight

If you fly Business class with Emirates you can take advantage of their FREE chauffeur service to take you to the airport & home if within a 70 mile radius. This is an excellent service and customers love it.
You also get access to the Emirates business class lounge.  We had lunch in here which was lovely, all self service and a variety of food on offer.  The menu is changed regularly and offers soups, nibbles, main meals, desserts & much more.  I ate about 4 courses just to try everything and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

There are also drinks available from soft drinks, teas, coffee, alcohol and all unlimited – but don’t have too much Champagne or you won’t be able to fly…

The lounge is open for approx 4 hours before each flight.

I was so impressed with the business class part of the aircraft which is upstairs and has it’s own bar too. The seats are very spacious with large TV screens.  The beds go flat and they provide a mattress & quilt etc for a comfortable sleep.  There is also your own little mini bar.

We also had a look at the bar at the rear of business class where you can grab a drink and mingle with other passengers and stretch your legs.

These are the steps to the upper deck so we had a group photo.

So will you fly business class with Emirates next time you fly anywhere via Dubai?

I certainly will as the service in the lounge and on board is fantastic.

Until next time, happy cruising!
