A Day Onboard Silver Dawn: Six-Star Luxury at Sea

There’s something truly special about stepping onboard a Silversea ship, and Silver Dawn is no exception. Since 2022, this elegant ship has joined the ranks of the world’s most luxurious cruise ships, offering guests an intimate yet indulgent way to see the world.

With space for just under 600 guests and a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio, Silver Dawn embodies Silversea’s signature style of small-ship luxury, where personalised service, refined design, and immersive travel experiences meet seamlessly at sea.

What to Expect Onboard Silver Dawn

From the moment guests step onboard at the top of the gangway, they are welcomed with champagne and caviar- providing an elegant touch from the very beginning of there journey.

Once onboard, my first stop was the onboard theatre. This venue is simply gorgeous, with its cream interior and a very welcoming atmosphere. I also loved the little touch of having seats with tables, so there is always somewhere to keep your drink during a show.

Next, I visited the Dolce Vita Lounge, which was beautifully decorated with cream and duck egg colours, providing a lovely, calming space. This would be the perfect spot during the day to chill out and enjoy a coffee, or a great area to savour a cocktail in the evening, with a pianist often playing.

In reception, guests can find lots of information about their cruise, along with a copy of The Chronicles; a daily newsletter featuring activities, weather, and onboard entertainment. 

Silver Dawn doesn’t have a stereotypical atrium, but features a stunning staircase which brings you down each deck. As the ship has no inside cabins, it’s also hard to get lost, with just one single corridor taking you from the forward to the aft of the ship.

The next stop was outside to the pool deck, which for the size of the ship, packed a punch with an excellent-sized pool.

This area is well-suited for hot days at sea, perfect for lounging in the sun with a glass of complimentary champagne! For colder climates, there are also outside spaces equipped with heaters.

The Grill, Silversea’s much-loved casual dining restaurant, serves a delectable range of burgers and salads by day and turns into the Hot Rocks table BBQ concept by night, where there is a choice of meats to cook on a hot stone!

The Observation Lounge was amazing, displaying glorious views across the ocean. I could just imagine being here when the ship sails into port. For those who like a quieter place to unwind, there is a library onboard where guests can relax and get lost in a book.

Silver Dawn’s Panorama Lounge is a peaceful retreat; the perfect place to meet new friends, sit back and enjoy a tipple while watching the world go by. Each table features a fresh orchid, providing next-level elegance to set the tone.

The spa onboard was also a lovely, chilled area equipped with a hair and makeup studio, a barbershop, and various treatment rooms.

A Look Inside Silver Dawn's Luxury Suites

Next, it was time to take a look at the suites! I visited a total of four different types of suites: the Superior Veranda Suite, Grand Suite, Silver Suite, and the Owner's Suite.

All standard Veranda Suites are similar, with the only difference being the location, depending on whether it’s a classic, deluxe or superior.

All suites were spacious and featured Silversea’s famous complimentary champagne ready and waiting for when the guests enter- what better way to start a voyage?

Inside the suites, there is a fridge or mini bar area, depending on suite grade, where guests can request their favourite spirit from their cabin steward-butler. Full bottles of spirits will then be brought to the cabin for guests to enjoy during the cruise, or taken off the ship when they disembark.

Butlers can also arrange cocktail parties in guests’ cabins, where they will send beautifully handcrafted invitations out to other guests to formally invite them over. At the party, butlers will make cocktails and bring canapés to set up the evening.

Within suites, butlers can also do what’s known as the Otium experience, where they will run your bath, pop in flower petals, play classical music and place flickering candles to set the perfect atmosphere. Otium is Silversea’s Roman-inspired wellness programme that provides a holistic approach to relaxation and indulgence.

Additionally, guests can request the ‘movie experience’, where your butler can set up your room and order popcorn for a cosy movie night at sea. I loved the sound of these little extras to make guests feel special.

Each suite has a beautiful outside balcony, which gets bigger the higher the grade of the suite. The Owner’s Suite took my breath away, boasting a huge walk-through bathroom and masses of space; the ideal cabin for hosting parties or taking time out from the rest of the ship.

These suites are available in a one- or two-bedroom configuration, with a large seating area, Bose sound system, interactive 55″ TV, and even an Illy coffee machine. Whether guests are inside or relaxing on the large veranda, the Owner’s suite offers supreme comfort for every hour of the day.

Dining on Silver Dawn: World Class Cuisine at Sea

The Dame, Silversea’s signature French restaurant, is the epitome of fine dining. Featuring the rich, smooth flavours of France, La Dame’s reputation for gastronomic excellence is fully upheld onboard Silver Dawn.

This is the only restaurant where there is a fee to eat ($60pp), but for the quality of food it is well worth the extra charge, in my opinion.

S.A.L.T. Kitchen transforms dining into discovery with menus that reflect the cuisines of the places guests will visit during their cruise. This complimentary dining venue is the only restaurant at sea with an ever-changing menu based on the destination, linking guests to the culture and ways of the ports they visit.

La Terrazza is a celebration of Italian cuisine and the traditions it holds, showcasing delicious food, such as antipasti, homemade pastas, and grilled meats, as an ode to Italy.

Next- Kaiseki. This restaurant demonstrates meticulous preparation and beautiful presentation. Dishes reflect a passion for tradition and performance.

Daytime menus feature a varied and balanced menu of sushi, sashimi, and other raw Asian-inspired dishes, while evenings are a buzz with the taste and traditions of fine Japanese dining.

I had the pleasure of dining at Atlantide during my visit onboard Silver Dawn. The service here was impeccable! I loved the touch of adding olive oil and balsamic vinegar to the table, giving a touch of Italian elegance to enjoy with the vast bread options.

For lunch, I opted for the chicken quesadilla to start, the beef tenderloin medallion for main, and the chocolate pudding for dessert. 

Overall, my day on Silver Dawn was a wonderful experience, exuberating elegance and sophistication from the moment I stepped onboard.
