What Is Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas Really Like?

Designed to combine high-energy thrills with serene relaxation, these record-breaking vessels offer an unmatched variety of neighbourhoods, dining concepts, and world-class entertainment across 20 impressive decks.

Cruise consultants Bhavika, Annabel, Eve, and Jo recently stepped aboard the brand-new Legend of the Seas for a four-night Mediterranean sailing from Barcelona to Rome. Below, Bhavika shares her complete firsthand review and diary of life on board.

Bhavika's Onboard Diary

I recently had the privilege of embarking on Royal Caribbean's newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, for a 4-night sailing from Barcelona to Rome alongside Annabel, Eve, and Jo.

Launched in July 2026, this impressive 20-deck ship accommodates up to 7,600 passengers, has a gross tonnage of 250,800, and offers a truly beautiful, immersive experience from start to finish.

Our journey began seamlessly with a well-coordinated coach transfer from Barcelona airport arranged by Royal Caribbean representatives. Upon boarding, the crew was incredibly welcoming, and I was immediately struck by The Pearl, one of the ship's most eye-catching features and a stunning architectural centrepiece.

During our cruise, I stayed in a Surfside balcony cabin, which was spacious and modern, offering excellent views of the Surfside neighbourhood along with plenty of storage.

However, it is not recommended if you want complete peace and quiet on your balcony, as the Surfside neighbourhood can be quite noisy with family activities, music, and children playing throughout the day.

Onboard Neighbourhoods & Attractions

The ship features eight distinct neighbourhoods, including Surfside, Thrill Island, Chill Island, and The Hideaway. Thrill Island hosts Category 6, the largest waterpark at sea, featuring six record-breaking waterslides, alongside Royal Bay, the largest pool built on a cruise ship.

In contrast, Central Park provides a peaceful open-air oasis in the middle of the ship, filled with over 30,000 live plants and lined with restaurants, bars, and luxury shops. Every area of the ship carries its own unique theme and atmosphere that feels completely immersive.

Deck-by-Deck Highlights

• Decks 3, 4, and 5: Home to the Music Hall, Royal Theatre, and Main Dining Room, as well as the fleet's first two-storey casino, the Royal Promenade, Pearl Cafe, Sorrento's Pizza, the Fitness Centre, Spotlight Karaoke, Starbucks, and Absolute Zero, which is the largest ice-skating rink at sea. You will also find Duelling Pianos, Giovanni's Italian, Boleros, the Schooner Bar, Adventure Ocean, and the Royal Railway Legend Station, an immersive dining experience where you eat your way through different countries from China to Italy.

• Deck 7: Home to Surfside, the ultimate spot for young families. It features a dedicated restaurant, bar, buffet, a sweet and salty snack window, an ice cream sprinkles station, a candy shop, a splash pad, an arcade, and a family pool with an incredible view.

• Deck 8: An open-air sanctuary featuring Central Park, where you can dine at Chops Grille steakhouse, Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, or visit the Champagne bar and high-end retail boutiques.

• Deck 15: The crown jewel is the AquaDome, offering 180-degree ocean views, a comfortable lounge area that looks spectacular day or night, a coffee bar, a seafood restaurant, and jaw-dropping high-diving shows. You will also find everyone's favourite, the Windjammer buffet.

• Decks 15, 16, and 17: The three main pool decks feature seven pools, ten whirlpools, ten bars ranging from margaritas to milkshakes, a FlowRider surf simulator, a rock-climbing wall, and a ropes course that swings you out over the side of the ship.

Dining Highlights

With dozens of restaurants offering over 40 food and beverage concepts, you can find everything from quick snacks to fine dining. El Loco Fresh on Deck 15 was my favourite lunch spot for casual Mexican dishes like build-your-own tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and fresh salsas.

We also made multiple stops at Sorrento's for unlimited pizza slices. The Main Dining Room offered a fantastic variety of rotating dishes and desserts. A selection of complimentary soft drinks is included across the ship, such as iced tea, lemonade, mixed fruit squash, and ice water.

World-Class Entertainment

The onboard entertainment was exceptional. We saw the Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the Royal Theatre, which was excellent. We also watched the spectacular diving show in the AquaDome's AquaTheatre, showcasing breathtaking aerial stunts.

Over at Absolute Zero, the largest ice arena at sea, we enjoyed the high-energy Fusion Ice Skating Show. After sunset, the nightlife comes alive with singalong fun at Dueling Pianos, live cover bands in the Music Hall, and late-night sets in the Royal Theatre and lounge venues.

My Favourite Spots On Board

My absolute favourite area was the adults-only Hideaway Pool on Deck 15, which is the first suspended infinity pool at sea and delivers fantastic beach club vibes.

The Ibiza Pool Party hosted here is highly recommended! In the evenings, we frequently visited the vibrant Music Hall for live music, dancing with dedicated cover bands, and great bar service.

Final Verdict

Overall, Legend of the Seas is bright, colourful, modern, and spacious. Although it is a family-friendly ship carrying over 7,000 passengers, it never felt overcrowded, and you can easily find a quiet spot to relax thanks to the abundant sun loungers positioned across the decks.

Whether you are seeking high-energy adventure, total relaxation, or top-tier entertainment, this ship delivers on every level. I had the absolute best time and will definitely be returning.
