This agreement explicitly includes the development of a prototype vessel for MSC Cruises that utilises wind power. However, with innovation at the heart of the group, who is to say we won't see this technology adapted for an Explora Journeys ship in the future?

We have dreamt up the ultimate futuristic and ultra-luxury vessel: The Dual-Mode Submersible Eco-Liner. Let's call it the SS Poseidon’s Whisper.

Phase 1: The Solar Sails (Surface Mode)

On a sunny day in the Mediterranean, the ship operates in its primary mode. Four massive, rigid "Sol-Sails" rise from the deck.

Covered in highly efficient solar panels, these sails serve a dual purpose: they catch the wind to propel the ship silently, and they generate vast amounts of solar energy to charge the ship's massive battery banks.

Guests can relax on the open-air decks, enjoying the sea breeze without the hum of engines, watching the world go by as nature powers their journey.

When the captain spots a vibrant coral reef or when the weather on the surface turns rough, the ship prepares to dive. In a spectacular feat of engineering, the massive solar sails automatically retract. They fold downwards and backwards, locking flush against the ship's hull.
