We've Been Onboard Queen Mary 2!

Sailing Onboard Queen Mary 2

I recently had the pleasure of sailing on Queen Mary 2 for 4 nights- wow, what a ship! It completely opened my eyes to Cunard ships and their guests. The ship’s interior was so bright and open, featuring lots of amazing bars and restaurants to choose from.

The casino was also lovely, however, my favourite place onboard was G32; Queen Mary 2’s very own nightclub! I did not expect to find a venue like this onboard a Cunard ship, and this nightclub was the best I have experienced at sea. There was a live band playing up until midnight, and then it was onto some cheesy 90 and 00s pop hits, which we all loved!

Day 1 - Embarkation Day

Embarkation was an easy process. I arrived at the cruise terminal over an hour early but had dropped my luggage, checked in, cleared security and was in the Golden Lion (Queen Mary 2’s traditional British pub) within 20 minutes.

We had a leisurely lunch before attending the muster drill. Recently I have only had to have my card scanned and watched the video in my cabin but this was a full drill which everyone had to attend. After the muster drill, we had some free time to explore our cabins and get ready for drinks, before dinner in the beautiful Britannia restaurant.

The cabins onboard Queen Mary 2 were very spacious with the most comfortable beds. I particularly loved that they still gave us a turn-down service with chocolates on the pillows each night. My cabin steward Geoff was also fantastic.

Day 2 - Sea Day

Today, we started with a scavenger hunt all over the ship where we had to find items and take pictures. It was so much fun and quickly helped us to become more familiar with the ship.

Later, we met at Illuminations for Cunard’s unique adventure through the stars. This special venue is a luxury cinema and classical music venue all in one, featuring an illumination dome that can take guests on an epic journey across the solar system, navigate by the stars, or show other science and natural history films. There are up to four screenings available at Illuminations per sea day.

It was celebration night so we all dressed to impress with a quick turnaround to meet at The Verandah (steak house) for dinner and drinks. The steak here was to die for!

Day 3 - Hamburg

It was an early start today for us to head into Hamburg for our river cruise excursion.

Hamburg is such a beautiful city; it was amazing to see it from the river. The best part was when our boat took us right in front of Queen Mary 2, where we were so close that the ship’s onboard WiFi connected! The riverboat then played the national anthem and everyone stood to admire Queen Mary 2, it was amazing.

We had the rest of the day and evening free so decided to give the Britannia restaurant another try for dinner- we were not disappointed! The food is amazing here. After dinner, we went to listen to a Jazz band in the Golden Lion before heading down to G32 for a night of live music and dancing.

Day 4 - Sea Day

Today was a sea day, and we all had a leisurely lie in before meeting up to discuss what we enjoyed during our trip onboard Queen Mary 2.

After a while, it was sadly time to head back to the room to pack our cases and put them outside our cabins ready for collection, allowing an easier disembarkation tomorrow morning.

Later that evening, we all met up for a last round of pre-dinner drinks before heading to the Britannia restaurant once again for our last supper. Nobody wanted to end the night after dinner, so we all headed to the Queen's room for some light music before our last hour in G32.

Overall, I would strongly urge anyone who has never sailed with Cunard to give it a try, especially onboard Queen Mary 2!
