Exclusive dining: Oceania Sonata will debut two chef-led culinary concepts, including the first-ever La Table at sea
Intimate experiences: La Table seats just 18 guests for a multi-course French tasting paired with vintage Champagne
Global flavours: Nikkei Kitchen fuses Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques in a vibrant, modern setting
Oceania Cruises has revealed two all-new dining experiences debuting aboard Oceania Sonata, the first ship in its next-generation Sonata Class, set to launch in August 2027.
The announcement was made during a press event at ILTM Cannes, highlighting the line’s commitment to elevating fine dining at sea.
The first of the new venues, La Table, will be the only restaurant at sea launched with approval from the prestigious Maîtres Cuisiniers de France (Master Chefs of France).
The partnership is a world first for a cruise line and strengthens Oceania Cruises’ position as a leader in culinary innovation.
La Table will seat just 18 guests, offering an intimate dining experience featuring rotating menus created by Oceania Cruises’ Executive Culinary Directors, Chefs Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale, alongside a selection of invited Master Chefs of France.
The restaurant will also host the line’s signature Dom Pérignon Experience, a six-course tasting menu paired with three vintage Champagnes.
Joining La Table is Nikkei Kitchen, an evening dining venue showcasing the dynamic Nikkei culinary movement.
Combining Peruvian ingredients with Japanese techniques, Nikkei cuisine is celebrated for fresh seafood, bright citrus, soy-based sauces and subtle heat from peppers.
Chef Gustavo Sugay, with more than 20 years’ experience in Nikkei cuisine, collaborated with Chefs Quaretti and Barale to create 12 innovative dishes for the restaurant.
Nikkei Kitchen’s bright, airy interior and modern open kitchen reflect the light, fresh flavours of its menu, which will be available on a first-come basis as part of the line’s included specialty dining options.
Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, said Oceania Sonata represents an opportunity to reimagine the future of the line’s culinary programme while maintaining the concepts guests love.
Chefs Quaretti and Barale described the new restaurants as a celebration of French gastronomy and global flavours, combining tradition with innovation.
La Table will operate as a nightly, reservations-only experience with a surcharge, while Nikkei Kitchen is capacity-controlled and included as part of the ship’s specialty dining offering.
Full menus and additional details are expected to be revealed next year.
In addition to La Table and Nikkei Kitchen, Oceania Sonata will feature ten other dining venues, including the elegant Grand Dining Room, French restaurant Jacques, pan-Asian Red Ginger, Polo Grill steakhouse and Toscana for Italian cuisine.
The ninth vessel in the Oceania Cruises fleet, Oceania Sonata will be the first of four Sonata Class ships, accommodating 1,390 guests.
Launching in August 2027, the ship will feature spacious suites making up 30% of accommodations and a range of onboard amenities designed to deliver unforgettable experiences anchored by the brand’s hallmark culinary expertise.
Oceania Sonata promises to set a new benchmark for dining at sea, combining exclusive French fine dining with inventive global flavours to create a truly memorable gastronomic journey.
