Weekend in London

Last weekend my husband and I took ourselves off to London for a cheeky weekend away. We managed to get a good deal on the Danubius Hotel in Regents Park directly opposite Lords Cricket Ground and had a few things planned for the weekend. Working in travel we are lucky to get incentives from some of the cruiselines that allows us to book various things and I used some of these points to book a couple of treats for us while we were away. After checking into the Hotel we headed off to the Savoy for Champagne Afternoon Tea. This was served in the Thames Foyer by our lovely waiter Charlie and we enjoyed a selection of Sandwiches, Cakes and Scones along with a glass of Champagne ( which the topped up for free) and lovely afternoon tea. Once we had managed eat our way through everything we headed into the Beaufort Bar for a Cocktail. This used to be a Caberet Lounge back in the day and the bar is situated where the stage was.  The Cocktail Menu entitled Music, Magic & Drama, seeks to elevate the hotel bar experience through a refined signature offering, including grower Champagnes and sparkling wine, expertly prepared mixed drinks, and a well-chosen, in-depth whisky selection. I chose a cocktail from the Music section but at £25.00 I only had one

After leaving the Savoy we walked along the Thames to walk off the food and I had booked us  into the Gherkin for Cocktails that evening. Again this was something I purchsed with my points and entitled us to a Cocktail each and a “small plate to share” The views were spectacular from the bar which is situated at the very top of the Gherkin and were even better when it was dark and everything was lit up. We were shown to our table by the very attentive waiting staff and ordered our cocktails. As it was really busy we really didnt mind waiting, and just taking in everything that was going on and people watching. 20 minutes later the cocktails arrived from  the waiter who was full of appologies for the wait and proceeded to tell us that the next one would be on the house. This turned out to be another 2 free cocktails on the house and at £13.00 each I wasnt complaining.

On Saturday we woke up to a very wet day but by the time we had breakfast it had dried up and we headed to the Zoo. This was only a 15-20 minute walk from the Hotel and we arrived around 11.45 and didnt have to queue which was good and we  arrived just in time to watch the Tiger feeding show.  Although the entry was £32.00 each it was well worth it and we spent all day there not leaving until around 5.45pm.

After walking around the zoo for 6 hours we headed off to Camden  for Tapas and them off to Wonderfest Roof Top Bar. This was definately a great place for people watching as when we arrived it looked like most people had been there all day enjoying drinking in the sunshine.

It was a lovely way to spend the weekend with the added bonus of having a Free Afternoon Tea and Cocktails courtesey of Shine Rewards Points so I am now on the look out to see what I can spend them on next!
