Its Festival Season Again

Its that time of year again when all the music festivals begin and people flock in there 1000’s to these events. Last weekend was The Isle of Wight Festival to kick things off and which got  a lot of attention this year, not simply because Glastonbury was off the calendar but also because the UK music festival was celebrating its 50th anniversary . The festival has a long history of awesome headliners, gaining popularity in the 60s and 70s when it played host to the likes of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.

This year the V Festival will be no more and this will be replaced by the Rize Festival in the same venues at Hylands Park Chelmsford  and Weston Park in Staffordshire.

If it’s big acts across a mix of genres you’re looking for, then you can’t go wrong with Reading or Leeds. Both Festivals have identical lineups, meaning you only need to go to the one closest to you. This is also likely to be in high demand with a bigger lineup due to the absense of Glastonbury.

British Summertime Hyde Park Festival features over 2 weekends on 6th July and 13th July. British Summer Time Hyde Park has become such a big deal on the UK festival calendar, it has even attracted royal guests. In 2017, none other than Prince Harry was spotted having a beer and rocking out to The Killers at the London festival.

These are just a few Festivals that are on the calender but last weekend I was at a “Festival” closer to home. Im my home town of Corby there is a big music scene with bands playing in a lot of the pubs and clubs every weekend and every year they stage a local Festival. This used to be called Weldon Fest and was at one of the local football grounds featuring 2 or 3 stages with various genres of music from bands that are local to the area. Last year we seen the Flashpoint Festival come to the area and  at Rockingham Castle, which is only 10 minutes walk from my house, which was handy. This featured Deacon Blue as the headliner on the Saturday night and OMD on the Sunday night (for those of you who are old enough to remember these!)

This year it was “Steelfest” which was at Corby Town Football Club where the Steelmen play. The Farm were the headliner act (……altogether now…) and Big Minds also played which were made up of members of Big Country and Simple Minds. There were 3 stages and a lot of local bands played on the other stages along with alternative music going on in various tents.

Heres’s a couple of  pictures of our Shenanagins last weekend!

Music Festivals are also becoming polular at Sea too with Royal Caribbean hosting “Stages” on a roundtrip cruise from Southampton to Amsterdam from 15th-19th October. This will feature Michael Ball, Beverley Knight, Collabro and Lee Mead, to mentions a few. Royal Caribbean will also be host to “Throwback” an 80’s Festiaval at Sea from 12th-15th October. This will feature The Human League, OMD, Erasure’s Andy Bell, jason Donovan and many more. If you like music and cruiisng then this is a great way to kill 2 birds with one stone as they say. Would you consider a Festival at Sea?
