Have P&O stolen Celebrity’s Ideas!

P&O  have recently revealed some of the details of their newest ship Iona which will enter service in 2020. One thing people are always interested in seeing is what the cabins will look like inside and whether they are different from the other ships. Alongside the normal inside, outside and balcony cabins Iona will have Conservatory Mini Suite Cabins. With these cabins the concept brings the outside in with a conservatory style room that forms an extension to the cabin. This area will have seating and can be closed off or the doors can be fully opened making it one big area, including the balcony, so it is one continual space.

This design isn’t something new though as Celebrity Edge have a very similar concept that will be featured on their new ship Edge when she launches later this year. The Infinite Balconies  have a  touch  button that slides the top half of the floor to ceiling glass window down, to make the glass fronted balcony, and the doors of the cabin  fold back completely to make it one big space.

I will be travelling on Edge  in April next year in one of these balconies so cant wait to try it out.

It will be interesting to see if when further details are released for Iona if there will be any other similarities to other ships. One thing that wont be the same for these 2 ships will be the size. Iona will have the capacity for 5200 passengers whereas Celebrity Edge with carry 2918 so is nearly half the size.  Iona will be the largest ship built for the UK market and will feature a Grand Atrium that will sit on decks 6,7 and 8 and will have panoramic sea views. There will be 15 places to eat including 8 speciality restaurants. There will be 18 whirlpools, so plenty for those that like taking a dip and there will alos be 4 swimming pools with one of these being indoors.

I cant wait to see what these 2 ships have to offer once they are finished. Would you like to sail on either of these?
