The “M1” Out of sight out of mind!

‘Most have heard of the M1 , that long South-North motorway that connects London to Leeds, but did you know that on a cruise ship they have ther very own “M1”. This is the central busy hub under the passenger decks which cruise members use to  make their way round the ship, and on our recent trip on the brand New Majestic Princess we were welcomed to the M1 for an exclusive cruise.co.uk tour.

This eye opening tour was simply mind boogling the amount of people down their hurrying around going about their daily work including butchers, bakers, copy print and designers, chefs, electricians, carpenters, mechanics, locksmiths, paramedics the list is endlist of crew you don’t always think about , I dont think i will ever questions paying gratuities again. This unseen city is where the action is, all working together to make sure us passengers have an amazing holiday experience.

I think by this video you can clearly see what a smoothly operation they were operating down there even after only being together for a few days. Everyone we passed had da smile on their face and were so welcoming, it was very obviously that they do live up to their nickname “the happiest crew at sea”

Here are a couple key facts.

The Majestic is split into 8 watertight fire compartments. The water tight doors can and must be closed within 60 seconds by specially trained staff.

-All food is prepared on board and is fresh. No frozen or pre cooked food is used. Alone they make an astounding 1500 beef burgers per day.

Food regulations are very strict and all crew members that handle food have a 600 page guide book to stick to.

-All fridges are monitored through the day so that they check the temp can never go below 5c.
So here you see for yourself, that this is where your gratuties go, here are the unsung heros of cruising please remember this next time you are choosing whether to include automatic tipping during your cruise or tip personally the cabin staff you see day to day.
