Everything but the kitchen sink…………..

All my friends and family will tell you I am a professional packer, and with a family of 5 i need to be organised. I like to make list after list to make sure I do not miss or forget anything. I have found recently that seasonal cruisers  common worries when making the leap from departing from UK to taking a fly cruise package is luggage.

With fashion being a huge part of some peoples cruising experience, they are concerned that airline luggage allowance will restrict the amount they can bring on their holiday and it is actually putting them off flying to meet their cruise ships and trying new destinations.

Think again as I am here will my top 5 packing tips to make sure you can take a fly cruise without leaving your frocks at home.

1/ Toiletries Things likes of shampoos, conditioners and shower gels are obviously necessities however very heavy, but you don’t have to purchase them prior to packing. Why not purchase your toiletries after you have checked in and have gone through to airside. This was they will not count in your luggage allowance and you will also benefit from the discounts offered in duty free.

2/ Hand luggage  Make the most of the cabin luggage allowance.  When travelling in couples or more try place all travel needs in one bag including books, medicines, tablets etc…. This will free up other bags maybe use this allowance to bring a suit carrier for transporting heavier items such as suits and gowns.

3/Light weight suit case There a some fantastic lightweight luggage sets on the market these days. Hard cases may look great and feel sturdy however they are very heavy. Investing in a new set will free up some all important KG just enough for an extra pair of shoes.

4/ Be Smart If you are going to on a 7 night cruise do you really need 17 tops 12  pairs of shorts and 13 pairs of shoes? How many times do you return from your holiday, unpack and realise you haven’t worn half the items you packed. Make sure you are only packing what you  really need.

If you are going for longer remember all ships have either laundry or dry cleaning facilities to use. Also  check to see if  beach towels will be available on board, these can be very heavy so don’t pack them if you really dont have to.

5/ Medicine Hacks If you need to take a number of different medicines away with you, invest in a small pill pot so that you can organise your medicines prior to leaving therefore leaving all packaging at home.

There are always way of reducing your luggage as well as increasing luggage allow at a reduced rate prior to travel. So if you know you will almost certainly go over the limit let us know there are always arrangement’s that can be made, so that you do not have to stick to Southampton departures.
