Another cruising disaster for New Zealand!

What is happening in New Zealand during the latest cruising season out there?

I get the law of averages will mean that the more trips to New Zealand the more  things can go wrong but this has been a pretty bad period for cruises in New Zealand.

In October/ November there were 2 deaths in separate incidents on the same day related to the same ship, then earlier this week the luxury ship Encore owed by Seabourn lost its moorings and slowly spun into another ship in dock.

The 2 deaths caused a lot of upset on the ship, i had about 12 customers on board and they all agreed that although they did not know the victims it did bring a sombre to the trip, read my blog at the time of the deaths here.

This weeks incident, or accident had a lots less tragedy but the drama was just as much and could have been worse, see the video here, you will notice that the gang blank was out at the time the ship started to drift, you can only imagine what could have happened should there have been anyone crossing at the time! And as we know it is not normally one person crossing at a time but at least a couple and if not more.

Have you ever experienced tragedy, dramas or other serious incidents at sea? If so how was it dealt with and how could it be improved.

Since Costa Concordia went down 73% of cruisers believe that cruising is now safer, see the report here, why does it take such horrors to learn from them?

Well hopefully that is enough pain for New Zealand and its visitors and the dramas do not come over to Europe.

Not long now to our Med cruise season starts, warm weather, beautiful sights and some amazing memories.
