£22 to reserve your sunbed

When cruising if you want to have the best cabin on the ship in the best position then you pay for that privilege. The higher and more midship you go then the more expensive it is.  Once your onboard and settled in to your cabin next stop is going up deck to find yourself a nice sunbed that’s in a good position not too far from the bar in a nice sunny spot.

On sea days we all know that the sunbeds are grabbed very quickly and can be very frustrating and you can find yourself walking up and down the sun decks a few times before you find one. Well how would you feel if now, just like your cabin , you could pay to have the sunbed of your choice in the best spot.

This is what Thomas Cook are doing with their hotel holidays.

They are offering customers a chance to pre book the loungers ahead of the holiday. This trial scheme will enable customers to pay £22 to choose and book a specific sunbed before they’ve even left home.

The “Choose Your Favourite Sunbed” service is being trialled in three hotels in February, and only some sunbeds will be bookable.

Thomas Cook said the scheme would then become available in 30 hotels later this summer.

The travel giant claimed it was the first package holiday company to provide the service, following a trial scheme it introduced last year which enables customers to select their hotel room prior to the start of their trip.

Chris Mottershead, Thomas Cook’s UK managing director said the initiative was designed to particularly help “families that want to secure a number of beds together in a specific spot”.

So what do you think of this idea and would you like to see it trialled out on cruises.

Personally as a family of 6 already paying over the odds for school holiday dates I am not too keen to be paying another £132.
